Even in the back of the car on the way to the hospital David will be begging for a bacon sarnie.

Thick Honey is back. Shame Harry Hill's TV Burp isn't on any more. He always used to make fun of her on his show.

The final scene was good thought David did a runner. Problem is DTC keeps these spoilers under wraps knowing deep down that's the only way to bring back lost viewers Imo.

How does that work?

Hyping up an episode and promising a death or some other major event is an attempt to pull in viewers, not releasing anything doesn't.

After all, we don't know there's any surprises until the episode's finished, at which point it's suddenly too late to tune in and change that episodes rating.

Facts are, there's not much point in watching a story/soap/drama if you know everything beforehand.

The fact is DTC is becoming desperate to bring back the lost viewers and its not working. They aren't coming back end of discussion.

Don't bother quoting me back no matter how times you try I won't be changing my mind.

I have no interest in changing your mind. I see posts and quote the ones I feel I want to discuss.... how a forum works funnily enough. Try not to be so argumentative.

Anyway, back on topic, of course DTC wants to draw back lost viewers, which is working to some degree. The ratings gap between EE and Corrie has narrowed and they're neck and neck and EE is achieving above ED again.

So it's not a case of "they aren't" as they already have.

I just disagree that with-holding spoilers is a "desperate" attempt to coax viewers back. How will not telling viewers things hook them in? Unless they're already watching?

Things like Honey popping back to drop the kids off or Jane coming back from Cardiff aren't ratings grabbers are they? But they are sometimes more effective when you don't know they're coming. Trying to make things a little more surprising takes things back to how they were before spoilers, you had to wait and watch.

Back in the real world...

Hope DTC doesn't continue to keep spoilers under wraps. BBC have alienated the lost viewers from 2010-2013 and they will never ever return. Its not must see tv anymore this once great show is sinking without trace.

No disrespect but your argument is very flawed. As the poster above said- withholding spoilers does nothing to change ratings. If anything he should be releasing more to tempt people back.

In my opinion this spoiler withholding is because DTC cares about show and is trying to put it back on the map and make people enjoy it again.

I would also disagree about the show dying a death- more people are enjoying it now than in a long time. The cast appear happier. Ratings are up. It is certainly being praised more on the forum and at the very least in my neck of the woods.

In not quite sure what your point is.

I am so glad that David did not do a runner, if anything he was more certain that he loved Carol than ever before. I hated that he collapsed where hi did though - I got a flash of deja vu and toady Derek, which I could have done without.

It does not look good for David but if he does die I hope he marries Carol on his deathbed. I think that would be a fitting end to their story. I will miss him so much!!

Someone in the TV ratings thread posted figures showing EE ratings for 2014 are up 43% on 2013.

I would say DTC is playing it perfectly.

I see LR is as ever saying such lovely things about EE, and speaking for everyone who watches yet again, he should become a Torie MP.

*ahem*

I'm a long-term Corrie viewer who hasn't watched EastEnders properly since, what, 2001?

May I refer you to post #280 on this thread.

Thank you.

Those are facts though.
They are not his opinion therefore it doesn't matter.

Exactly. it's nice that some people can put their opinions of the show/The fact they've stopped watching and praise the show based on an episode they've seen and enjoyed.

Funny thing is as stated there's loads of people coming back to the show so what DTC is doing is working.

Well the country is a mess at the moment with the idiots we have running the place. A few more wouldn't hurt I suppose.

Vote Labour! Vote EastEnders!

BIB This is exactly what he should continue doing. There's no point in attracting new viewers with hyped up episodes that frequently disappoint, they will only leave again.

He should keep taking chances and keep the surprises and twists coming....the show is on the up.

Exactly. Soaps should keep things secret. it works well.

Soaps never used to reveal so much back in the day and I am glad the BBC and the EastEnders team are willing to keep things back.

This.

Because we all know so much in advance [whether we want to all not - thanks newspaper who spoiled Lucy's Death...], of course, expectations are different nowadays.

The infamous Angie Divorce Papers and Who Shot Phil storylines would not have been so successful had we known all the details beforehand.
