So on Sunday Cheryl is releasing her single straight after she performs on the BGT final with no prior promotion/ radio play etc. And Ella is releasing her single "Ghost" at the same time, which has been on pre-order for a while.

I'm really interested at how this is going to play out. Ella's single is doing really well on pre-orders and looks good for a definite top-2 placing. While Cheryl will have a lot of hype after her performance and she has a great track record with her lead singles.

I personally hope Ella gets it. Her song is actually very good for an X Factor alum. And while I don't remember her very well from the show, I know she's certainly way more talented than Cheryl in terms of her singing voice and song writing.

Plus it'd be fabulous to see someone who didn't even make the latter stages of the X Factor to beat the so called "best" or "most popular" judge.

What's everyone's thoughts?

Not bothered about who beats who to a top placing in the charts
It's about how long it stays in the charts and how much it sells,

TBH if it were released at any other time and had she not re-joined the X-factor chezza would have no chance. It's been proven time and again she has 1 hit single off the back of BGT and then nothing..... Ella has a good song that appeals to those who have no interest in the circus that is x factor so I'd put money on her.

Cheryl will probably destroy Ella sales wise and peak wise.

After seeing Ella on BGT last night and not understanding a single word she sang I decided to listen to her song on YouTube and I was pleasantly surprised I hope she does well, maybe a number three charting? But I reckon Cheryl has it in the bag for a number one spot.

Call My Name? One of the biggest and fastest selling singles of 2012?

Also, its not actually be confirmed it will be released on the 8th, theres a rumour it will be on the 22nd after Summertime Ball

What is the point in even speculating when we HAVEN'T EVEN HEARD CHERYL'S SONG?!

It could be fantastic, it could be absolutely dreadful. I'm sure regardless it will do well, but you can't question exactly how well it will do when the world hasn't even heard it!

And what was the promo she did mainly Syco shows. the second single didn't sell and the album was her lowest seller just scraping 100K. And whilst CMN had huge first week sales it only went gold which these days is nothing. Had she begun her solo career without X Factor It's unlikely she would have fared so well.

And funny she is releasing more material now she is back with X factor.

Rush release seems to always beat long drawn out releases. For some reason, the music industry in the UK has not realised this yet and takes ages to release singles.

Ehm I don't think she performed on a single Syco show during A Million Lights, her main promo was The Voice and Graham Norton.

And I don't think going Gold is that bad. The album in the end sold around 150,000 which is pretty poor.

But she did have her first successful arena tour, so she wasn't a complete flop like some like to make out.

They actually just need to put the effort in and do a proper album campaign, if they choose the correct singles and released three or four singles the album would have sold better.

I think this thread is pointless there will be NO chart battle between them, The final of BGT is on the 7th which will mean Ella's is released the week before.

2 or more songs get released in the same week and there is a battle for who gets the number 1 spot.

So like i said this is pointless when Ella is releasing her song 1 week BEFORE Cheryl!

Her first album she had two more big hits (although 3 Words kind of overlapped with X Factor a bit, but that was because it started charting extremely early).

All three singles from her debut was successful and plus the album it's self were big. It went triple platinum. But then at this point, Cheryl was Britain's sweetheart.

Her second album only had one hit, as The Flood didn't do well and then the campaign ended. That album managed a platinum certification. She did have XF behind her at the start of the campaign but it had mixed opinion (i think it was truly horrendous) so that would of account to it's short album campaign and decrease in sales.

Her last album only had one hit as the second single didn't match the success and then the album campaign ended. The album it's self managed 100,000 to be sold.

She never had XF behind her for her last album. She did Call my name on The voice so the success of that song was down to that show.

Ella's single is released on the 8th. Do you mean Cheryl's single is released a week later?

Gotta hand it to Cheryl she may have a crappy voice but she planned this comeback out really well. By returning to X Factor she got this BGT slot for her comeback single something she'd never have gotten had she still been in Cowell's bad books.

Her return as X Factor judge is clearly just for yet another performance slot in November.

She better hope it all pans out.

I would be VERY surprised were Ella Henderson to do better than Cheryl's comeback single.

Cheryl is very popular with people who like pop music AND young girls because parents see her as 'safe' enough to be a role model; but preteen girls also see her as 'cool'. She also has a charming personality.

Ella's song is okay but she is still a relative unknown. Moreover Cheryl's record label and 'team' will see it as worrying if her comeback gets beaten to the top spot by someone so unknown as Ella, so they'll likely try and prevent that by a lot of means. Conversely I doubt Ella or her record label are directly going out to 'beat' Cheryl by releasing in this week, it just happens to fall in the same week.

Ella's single is doing pretty well on pre-orders. Ed is also releasing Sing on the 8th and he's also doing well on pre-orders.

Ghost is charting at #32 on iTunes and Sing is charting at 43. I expect Cheryl to beat them both, but in the long run I think Ghost will surpass Cheryl's single in sales.

Cheryl's releasing on July 20th so I think Ella fairs good chance at getting that #1.

So basically the songs aren't even being released at the same time. What a pointless thread!

I thought Capital didn't play divas 30 and over? Oddly I opposed this rule before but now I'd like to see it return to block Cheryl from my radio no matter who else is blacklisted
