You cannot record via HDMI. Two reasons. No DVD recorder on sale in the UK to the best of my knowledge has any HDMI inputs. You may find a few with HDMI outputs but they are no use for recording. And even if you did find a recorder with HDMI in it still wouldn't work as HDCP copy protection over HDMI would kick in and prevent the recording happening.
And of course there is the minor matter that you can't record HD to DVD anyway. it would at best get down-converted to SD so no real advantage to SCART.”
Right, gotcha.
Didn't realise HDMI was in or out and i've looked and DVD Recorder is indeed HDMI Out.
So, if I were to get a Sky HD box, I couldn't use my DVD Recorder to record from Sky HD? Or I could, but it wouldn't be in HD, just SD? It is a basic DVD Recorder (Something like 768*576)
I just want a better picture but not lose the ability to record to my DVD Recorder - as long as the picture is no worse than the SD I currently have.

The AVCHD codec jointly developed by Sony and Panasonic allows 1080i 1920 x 1080 at up to an average bitrate of 17Mbps on a standard DVD blank (Panasonic did have at least one model that would record in this format to DVD). Replay requires a PC with a DVD drive and AVCHD codecs or pretty well any recent Blu-ray player. About 40 - 60 minutes of UK HD broadcasts (depending on average bitrate) will fit on a single layer DVD blank.”
I'm guessing this will be quite expensive!

If it were me I'd get a HD+ box off eBay for about £15-£20, use the single feed knowing it'll only record one item at any one time, but benefiting from much higher quality pq from the hd channels (free/subscription) when watching live/sky box recordings.”
Sounds like Sky+HD is the way to go - If I cannot record Sky HD+ onto my DVD Recorder (not worried about onto the box), their would be no point in buying the box, as I tend to record programs onto the DVD Recorder as I do now with my standard box. SD quality recordings are fine for my other programmes, but for the World Cup which I intend to record for the games I am at work, I just want to be sure they will record onto DVD Recorder (only to delete them later)
