It might cause problems with storylines, but that's inevitable in a long-running serial. I'm at a loss as to why anyone thinks they are doing anything wrong. Adam Woodyatt and Wlliam Roache may be happy to play the same character their whole career, but most actors aren't. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be free to come and go if the producers can accommodate them.”

I do agree with you. We would all do the same in their position. If it doesn't work out elsewhere at least they tried. Theyre only human!

I like the fact that characters are making return appearance to see their relatives in special circumstances like Libby, Honey & Christian have done recently as makes it seem more realistic. People do come back to visit once in a while and attend important events like weddings and funerals. It always used to annoy me when characters didn't turn up.

As for actors leaving to do other work, how would you propose to stop them? It's up to the producer of the show if they want to leave a return slot open to them.
In the past characters were killed off unnecessarily when they requested leave from the show and I guess now the producers have realised that it was rather spiteful and counter-productive if the character was popular and could come back in the future.

Should you just be allowed one comebank and once you close the door the next times it stays closed

Maybe the revolving door is stopping the development of new characters”

Do you ever go somewhere just the once? Especially if it's somewhere that you lived and still have connections there?

I like the fact that Honey popped up, makes it more realistic!

its unrealistic if characters never return, people laugh at american soaps but at least characters return regularly, i,m so sick to death on people moaning that we need lots of new people blablabla we have alot of new characters so whats the problem get over it ee writors now realise that they need some form of realism.

Patsy is a strange one. She is the shows biggest supporter on Twitter and last year when all the critics were printing crap about the show she regularly made her opinion known that EE had won the BAFTA and so on. She really does not like the soap being criticised.

I don't have any issue with Patsy. What I find amusing is that usually the people who have a go at Patsy for saying the show was rubbish are the same people who adored Den Watts yet forget Leslie Grantham sent 12 years calling the show DeadEnders prior to his own return in 2003.

You get people like that. They can slag off something as much as they like but if anyone else dares to criticise "their" show there's hell to pay.

Grantham was wrong to slag off the show too but two wrongs don't make a right. I imagine Grantham is cut more slack because Den and Angie put EastEnders on the map. Without Den we wouldn't be here 30 years later moaning about it
