I think because Sinead's misdeeds are very out in the open. Diane did try to defend Sinead during the bullying storyline, but Sinead's bad behaviour after that had been so open that Diane couldn't ignore it. Also, I think because of Sinead, Diane had been looking at Finn as her good kid (at least compared to Sinead) and needed to hold on to that. Obviously, Diane's in for a very rude awakening.
