I see that most people on here are saying that the murder weapon in coronation street was a lead pipe.

I don't believe that it is a lead pipe at all.

Lead is soft and if it was used to strike Tango's head, it would of bent.
It didn't. It looks like aluminium to me rather than lead or even steel.

Deidre or Tracey... referred to it as in the Cluedo game last night and that made Rob go outside and retrieve said pipe...

I thought it was a short length of possibly broken off scaffold pole? Lead pipe is unlikely as it was in a skip outside the builders yard. If it were lead, surely either bankrupt Owen Arsewipe or new yard owner Jason nice-but-dim would have cashed it in for scrap value!

Lead may be soft but a length of lead piping is also incredibly heavy and a bang on the head with it would easily cave your skull in.

It was with a lead pipe wrapped in tape that Lord Lucan (allegedly!) murdered nanny Sandra Rivett in the basement of his house in 1974.

Classic Cluedo murder weapon.

Also depends on how thick it is.

Could have been the kind of piping used for old plumbing and that was quite thick lead piping.

I used to gather old lead pipes of all sizes from derelict houses when a boy to make fishing weights, so I know a fair bit about its properties and how it bends easily.

The pipe in coronation street is definitely not lead.

Apart from lead pipes being quite thick, the fact that the pipe was round gave it strength and less likely to dent. Even the cardboard tubes on which carpets are wound are extremely strong as are the less thick ones of which fabrics are stores. Rolls inside kitchen foil or clingfilm are also strong, The ones inside toil;et rolls collapse because they're very thin.

Strength of various cross sections not taught in your science lessons?

A lead pipe would bend when used to knock someone on the head. Fact!
Try it. Not on someone's head though.

It looked like an off cut of scaffolding pipe.

It did, but I suspect it was aluminium rather than a proper steel scaffolding pipe.

As used for large television Ariel's or parabolic dishes (non heavy duty).

We'll find out when the soap police finally unbury it.

I'm sticking with Lead... I watched it back when Rob retrieved said pipe and it is a dull grey colour with flakes of brown paint on it...
