Three tethering
Hi all,
I upgraded my old one plan with phone to 3's all you can eat plan, Now as most will know it has a 2gb tethering cap. So I gave it a spin and downloaded around 1.5gb via tethering but my remaining allowance is still at 2gb. Has anyone else noticed this? |

I did wonder how easy and accurate their tethering detection would be.
Wouldn't surprise me that they're not enforcing it effectively now, but obviously they can at any time. |

If Three only monitors tethering with the new personal hotspot APN then it seems you can easily get around it on any phone that allows you to change it. Isn't it just iOS that doesn't allow editing?
Does Android even let a user (or network) set a different APN when you use tethering? Don't think so. And even if it could, how would it work if you enabled tethering but also used data on the phone direct? |

That's what I was thinking (and why I asked!). Quote:

Can someone explain this in greater detail please. I'm currently on the One Plan sim only but I am looking to get my partner set up with with a new phone. She could really do with unlimited tethering like I have (not for particularly heavy usage but it's likely she'll need more than 2GB a month). I'd rather take a new contract out for her with a new phone as the cost won't be too much more than buying a phone outright and paying £20 a month for just a SIM. Thanks

Ultimately, tethering now has a 2GB limit so even if it works today, tomorrow and next week, it might not forever.
As it stands, it's just the One Plan on SIM only that is guaranteed to offer unlimited tethering for the foreseeable future. |
