So say both EE and Corrie ratings dipped to under a million and show bosses decided to end both shows, how would you write the final episodes?
Would you tie up all the loose ends or would you leave it with major cliffhangers for everyone?
Would you have a major disaster killing leading characters or simply leave with a whimper?

For Corrie, I'd have a big plane crash ripping through the street. This would be over a week of episodes and would kill many characters. The last scene would be Ken Barlow/Emily Bishop/Rita Sullivan or another major character making a massive memorial speech with an orchestra playing the Corrie theme tune in the background

For EE, Nick Cotton would have to arrive back saying " 'Ello Ma." That's a classic surely? Dirty Den would also have to resurface and Carol and David finally get married. Max will also have to sleep with someone for the very last time and Shirley gets rid of her coat.

For EE I'd have a week full of episodes, a wedding of two famous characters that is interrupted by a plane crash. Major characters die. Then in the final scenes as either dot/ian dies I'd have famous dead characters like Pat, dirty den watch over as they die. End credits- EASTENDED. Ha

On Corrie it would be the Rovers closed down forever... or the whole Street being levelled for new 'affordable' homes. Also, Gail has a nervous breakdown and straps her whole family into the car, just like Richard Hillman did, driving them into the canal. This time, Ken and Steve are there and they dive in to save them, but Gail grabs Ken and drags them both under. Steve saves the rest of them but then, just as he pulls himself back onto the side, Michelle goes 'Steve!' and pushes him back in. The end.!

Well I always liked how Brookside ended - with a waste company going to demolish the close to build a new incinerator on the site.

But, since you asked...

EastEnders - Everyone has hated Ian Beale for years, because he has always thought he was better than them. He had become so rich that he has bought up the entire square. So for a final shock to the audience all the EE cast break into Ian's house, restrain him & hang him in the middle of the square. Hardly anyone mourns his loss. Phil & Sharon marry but Grant turns up & at first everyone thinks he's there to stop the wedding, but he gives his 'bruv' a manhug & gives him his blessing to marry Sharon. The rest of the cast party hard & by the time the credits roll, the FULL theme tune is played out saying thanks to all who had stuck with EE.

Coronation Street - An unexploded bomb from WW2 is found underneath the cobbles in the centre of the street, all the locals are told to go into the Rovers. Character clashes occur then suddenly an explosion erupts outside & the locals are told the bomb had gone off, killing two Police Officers. The power goes out in the Rovers & the locals rush outside to find the Street totally destroyed. There is sadness all around & Ken Barlow makes a speech about the street, then the full theme tune plays out, ending the show.

CS -The whole street disappears into a massive sinkhole.
EE - the Thames barrier fails and Walford is swept away in the floods

Sharon and Ian on Arthur's Bench

Ian: I can't believe she's gone Sharon.. in the middle of a shift at the laundromat, it just.. it doesn't seem like a fair way to go. You'd imagine Dot would …well, go out with a bang.

Sharon (smiles softly, nods): That's what happens us all in time though. We just… slip away quietly and life goes on without us.

Ian (frustrated): … you're gone and the world forgets you were ever even there.

Sharon: Well, you're not gone as long as you're remembered. A bit of Dot's still around as long as we hold onto her - a bit of all the people who passed through this dirty 'ol Square will be here as long as we remember em.

Ian: Remember the good times eh?

Sharon (clutching Ian's hand): Yeah, and all those people that were a part of them. That'll never end cos we'll never forget. Sure, life does go on but it will always be a bit richer cos they were 'ere.

Theme starts playing as camera swoops up - looking down the busy market and over the Square. Credits.

That's lovely.

Then the camera starts to shake violently. The ground opens up. Angie Watts springs forth from the ground and screams like Jean Grey in X Men 3. The entire square gets ripped up into a maelstrom with various characters caught in it, the focus on Angie looking at Sharon, Den and Pat.

Angie screams " We are Enders, hear us roar!"
Fade to black. Julia's Theme played by John Barry.

The Episode would come in the form of a feature-length film in 4D.

Its revealed that since his "death" Nick Cotton has been masquerading as a nobleman Chris Silk and gotten himself elected as Mayor of Walford. Chris Silk might seem like he has Walford's best interests at heart, but beneath the wig, cosmetic surgery and make-up, Nick Cotton has a new scheme to seek revenge on his home borough for cultivating him into the maniacal villain he's become.

Soon, Walford Council announce that the borough of Walford is no more and is now going to be split up into neighbourhoods belonging to other east end boroughs. This deeply depresses the Walford residents and then the never to be forgotten Walford Riots ensue, sending shockwaves throughout the world.

With a corrupt council, riotous regions and trifled time, will Walford waste away?.....

......Not if the residents of Albert Square have anything to do about it...

The entire cast has slowly become replaced by secret sons of Shirley's, each and every one played by stereotype cockneys. In the final scene, each and every one her sons links arms and does a live rendition of 'mama told me not to come' by Tom Jones, as the camera fades to black.

Shirleys sons:
- Danny Dyer
- Michael Caine
- The Kray Twins
- Tommy Steele
- Ray Winstone

Eastenders: I'd end it in a really low-key way, but it would have to be in the Vic. I love the scenes where (almost) the entire cast are in the bar laughing, chatting, and playing games together. This could possibly work as the wake for Dot's long and eventful life; everyone celebrating her. Camera pans out. Julia's theme.

I'm actually genuinely sad that it's going to have to end one day. Hope it's not in my lifetime.

I agree with the 1st sentence.

I would like Eastenders to end like how, The Bill ended, which was life just carrying on as normal.

If it were me, Uncle Q, I'd write the last episode as the mother of all cliff-hangers.

I enjoy teasing folk.

For EastEnders I want Tracey to have the final line.

I want her to break the fourth wall, look directly into the camera and say

''now you know why I never said much'' and wink!

lol perfect way to sign off EE on a high

Then she walks up to the door of the Vic, peels back a label covering the real landlady's name - her name! (but it just says 'Tracey', no surname )

The end of Corrie:
Ken passes away peacefully in his arm chair at No. 1
Jim and Liz are reunited and take the helm at the Rovers together
Carla sells up the factory to a mystery buyer, who turns out to be none other than Danny Baldwin! On her way to the airport, Carla makes a final stop at a cemetery to visit Liam's grave and has a tearful moment before departing for her new life in the sun.

Coronation Street. Rita, Emily and Norris retire to the same old folks home; and a new spin-off series can be written around this.

I think for Eastenders it would have to end on a duff duff...a murder would be highly appropriate considering the show started with one and its the type of ending that can be left ambiguous, perhaps it could be Sharon plotting to kill Phil but we never actually find out if she does it or not, Also throughout the final episode I would have an affair start between two characters and a surprise re appearence at the end from a past character, Cindy Beale perhaps
I know with it being the final episode we would never find out the conclusions to the stories but the duffs duffs and the cliffhanger are one of the most famous things about EastEnders, and I think like The Bill it would show that life will carry on as normal. I think a final episode of sentimental and past references and a Juila's theme wouldn't reflect truely what EE is about and what made it a huge success!
