Virgin Mobile Capping speeds.
I have been running a few speed tests and noticed that Vigin Mobile are no longer giving you access to DCHSDPA speeds. They never reach higher then 12 meg. To confirm this I used my BlackBerry Z30.When using either EE or Three sim cards my screen displayed H+
I was getting around 15 meg. When I tried the Virgin sim but screen only displayed H and the most I was getting was about 11.5 meg. I have since tried it on a couple of other phones and the results are the same. |

Can anyone on Virgin confirm this?
Seems like an odd thing tbh as you should be able to access DC-HSPA+ |

Wish I could say it was a mast fault. However have repeated the tests some 20 miles apart. Still the same results.

Full HD video streaming can be achieved with around 4Mbps which is what T-Mobile (EE) cap their Full Monty customers to.
Whilst it's good to have more speed, what exactly is the issue with 12-15Mbps? That is more than many ADSL lines can provide! |

And before anyone says stick with EE. I am not allowed to. They no longer want me as a customer. O2 and Vodafone coverage is C--p when iam. So only options are Three or Virgin.

I suppose if you are a O2 customer you will be used to getting no more then 4 meg. It's just frustrating when you know EE can offer so much more.
O2's recent speed results for the areas mentioned above can be found here: http://www.rootmetrics.com/uk/ Best bet is to check yourself with a couple of PAYG SIMs on the networks that you consider have the best coverage in your own area. |

I have only used about 600MB so far this month. My brother and his wife are both Virgin Mobile customers and they are getting the same thing.

Can you be a little more specific what the issue is with the speeds reported as my ADSL line is around 12Mbps and it can satisfy lots of Internet use using a variety of devices simultaneously.
I agree with you that 12Mbps is more than you need. The point is that Virgin are not providing speeds above a certain point. If what the OP says is true then it could mean that Virgin are artificially capping speeds for all customers. I do find it odd that they would do this at a speed like this and so I don't think it's a cap at all. Unless there is other evidence/a big gap between EE/Virgin speeds then I'm going to class this as a rumour for now. |

I wonder if Virgin have been given a lower priority so they don't eat in to EEs band with so much

Just reread the OP and mention was made about handset indicators in relation to speed tests. H normally indicates HSDPA the first enhancement of 3G and H+ indicates HSPA+ which has had several upgrades over the years. DC-HSDPA does not have a separate indicator on any of the devices I have used so it's hard to determine if Dual Channel is being used. Bottom line is that 11.5Mbps is available and that should be more than sufficient for the majority of tasks anyone would ask of a mobile phone. If I got 11.5Mbps constantly I would be pretty satisfied.

Eh? What do you mean?
It's nice to see the good result on the IPHONE. Any Android or Windows phone users out there who can post results? |

I'm on Virgin and I got just over 18 Mb about two weeks ago when I did a speed test. I was right next to the mast though.

Let's just say I contacted EEs CS regarding a issue. As a result they cancelled all my contracts. [...]
