I've noticed that in Cal and Ash in Casualty and Harry and Raf in Holby seem to dress very casually for senior doctors - is this allowed in real hospitals.

(Sorry I'm in nitpicking mode!)

Smart casual is the norm, no white coats and naked from the elbow down

I don't watch either, but the doctors I've seen lately look like they could do with a good wash and a trip to a decent charity shop to get some new clothes!

Harry and Raf are normally in scrubs on the ward so I have no objection to them wearing whatever they like on their way to/from work. The thing I do have a massive problem with is Connie, Zoe and (I think) Ash wearing their own clothes in the department which, to my mind, is an infection control nightmare. Not only are they bringng all the germs from outside in, they're also (more worringly and much more yuckily) taking all the A&E germs home with them at the end of the day (imagine disgusted smilie here). And it never happens in '24 Hours in A&E' either, which is now my reference point for all things casualty-department related.

Exactly. I don't think it matters how casually the medics are dressed when they are changing into scrubs for their actual shifts which all but the Consultants if they are attending meetings invariably do. Yes, Harry, Raf and actually Jonny all dress fairly casually on arriving but then they change. The ones that do stay in their 'own' clothes like Serena, Guy, Ric, Spence, Joseph (before they went) sometimes Jac tend to be in suits or smart clothes. Elliot and Sacha perhaps not so much but that has more to do with them just naturally seeming quite scruffy (not at ease within their clothes) rather than what they've actually picked out. They'd be the same if they were in a tuzedo costing thousands!

I have a problem with Zoe n Co in Casualty.
Dresses showing a fair amount of cleavage....not appropriate imo.
And those heels.....how do they do a full shift in those things ???

Years ago all the Doctors in Casualty wore their own clothing.

I would think that heels would be dangerous in a hospital.

I'm a nurse, and if I'm honest this frustrates the hell out of me but it is an accurate portrayal - so many times have I seen junior docs, registrars and consultants going about rounds with their hair loose, heels on, casual clothes and not bare below the elbows, all the time in my head I'm screaming "Infection control! Infection control!" Fecks me off even more so as we nurses are mostly stringent about bare below the elbows, hair tied back etc and yet we get the flack for hospital acquired infections running rife!
