Good specs and I hope this device makes it to the sunny UK Potential . I know there's a thread on this already , but I reckin it's time we played with alternatives

Not a fan of the faux leather back, it's too Korean chic for my taste, but it looks much better than a back of Galaxy S5
OS UI does not look different from a typical Android. And I guess the phone will likely run Android apps, too. Or do they plan to force yet another target platform on their customers?

This new OS option looks interesting and the business reasoning behind it is also noteworthy with Samsung looking to develop their own app sales without paying commissions to Google.
This OS and the profits from an additional revenue stream may encourage Samsung and others to offer cheaper handsets and tablets in the future. |

Hardware wise, you know you will get quality from Samsung. It will be interesting to see what the software will be like.
Personally, though, I am more excited about Ubuntu for mobiles. |

I expect it to go the same way as Bada. Samsung's app store has been crap for years and all the other Samsung services seem set to be discontinued.
Samsung may build hardware that people want, but it can't seem to offer a realistic alternative to Google apps - and I see the same problem happening with Tizen. Our company has loads of Wave and Wave II handsets and no doubt we'll wind up with a few Tizen devices for developer events, but in a recent survey we carried out with game developers - almost none were considering Tizen as a platform they were going to support (and they knew of Tizen over a year ago when the first models were due). The most that will happen is Samsung pumps a load of money into the developer channels and gives out loads of free devices (as it did with Bada) so a few more apps will appear early on and then that'll be about it. Rather like BlackBerry did with OS 10. Even porting Android apps is only so good, as there's no guarantee the apps ported will be updated as often as they are via the Play store. |

It's going to flop like Bada OS. Samsung have really been pushing their own services on Android hard so that they can bring that user base over to Tizen in the long haul, but it hasn't been working as Android is purposely reliant on Google services now. Google aren't as stupid as Samsung hopes they are, consumers don't have any incentive to choose Samsung services over Google ones, especially when the Google ones are vastly superior.
Tizen will face the same issues that other new entrants faced. Applications and awareness of the platform. Yes Tizen is built with HTML5 in mind which makes it easier to port over apps, however, developers still have zero incentive to port their apps over to a platform with no standing in the market. Tizen would have to have developers porting their apps in droves to make any real impact and I just can't see that happening unless Samsung starts throwing money at them. Android and iOS will be staying put for the time being. Windows Phone is gaining traction as a 3rd option, but Samsung doesn't seem to care much for the platform, especially with Microsoft's strict standards and dealings with Nokia. I don't think Tizen is going to change the game for anyone. |
