It looks like Bradley Walsh leaving Law & Order UK could be a blessing in disguise. He has said that he will be working on other dramas ITV are developing. It makes sense to rest dramas that are weaker and not performing their best.

If the BBC sitcom he is in is successful he will likely commit to that before anything else. He said he has always wanted to be in a sitcom. Doesn't stop him considering other options though.

Just to be more accurate, it added 1.76m from 5.34m (DS rounded down to 5.30m because Tom Eames only gives us ratings to 1 d.p. for some reason. More accurate ratings comes from ITV Media.) Agreed, it's an excellent timeshift, but I think last night's will be more in line with episode 4's (+1.54m.)

It will be interesting to see if any new ITV dramas materialise for Bradley Walsh. There have been so many instances of press releases like this promising future projects, but they often don't happen...

Robert Lindsay and Zoe Wanamaker were going to do new BBC One sitcoms after My Family ended, Noel Edmonds was going to start a new Saturday night BBC One series the year after Noel's House Party ended, Savile was going to start a new BBC series the year after Fix It ended, Cilla Black was going to do lots of new projects for ITV when Blind Date got canned...

Yes, I agree. Lots of these reports are created by PR experts who obviously big up the stars of axed shows by suggesting they will be able to work on other shows in the future. It doesn't necessarily mean that these shows exist or that the star would even want to do it. Walsh will be making no drama series in the near future. He is due to start filming in Spain soon.

Hopefully Sarah Lancashire and Sally Wainwright will win plenty awards for "Happy Valley" I never got into "Last Tango In Halifax" but this series was fantastic TV drama. I would place Lancashire's performance above Keeley Hawes in "Line Of Duty" but as Mark Lawson points out that's a difficult choice between two very powerful performances.

Turns out the two Pointless editions on BBC Two the week before Wimbledon will be repeats.

Here's a link to the Noel story.

Well I imagine he has time to do both if need be, although not many recent comedies on the BBC have been good enough to become a success.

Steady H, the only recent successful one on ITV was a BBC one!

Well it was Walsh himself who said he will be eager to try other dramas ITV are developing, and I imagine he will get a good chance too since ITV most probably hold him in high regard with his success on The Chase.

Stop fretting. ITV will have plenty of dramas coming up, with or without Walsh. Bear in mind though he's not going to say " I am well pissed off at ITV for cancelling L&O UK so I never want to work with these gits again". He is going to be diplomatic.

A bit on ITV's new period drama Granchester. From the pics it look very viewer friendly - set in Cambridge and the countryside.

Holby is looking vulnerable. 4m might seem decent now but if it gets 4m while a programme on ITV gets 6m it will be looked at more closely. It's close to Waterloo Road territory.

Granny-chester might end up being too much of an OAP fest to get a big mainstream audience. It's set in the 1950s, might be quite plodding and slow. It might end up like Endeavour ratings-wise which is very popular with older audiences but just doesnt appeal to the under 50s. More contemporary dramas like New tricks and even Vera rate better than Endeavour. Granchester may go the same way.

Incidentally - as we head into the second half of 2014 - we still have not heard of a single 6 episode+ new drama series for Itv for 2015. They really are cutting back on the dramas, it seems. The rumours about the Beowulf dramas have been denied by Itv thus far.

James Norton is an excellent actor, Happy Valley is proof of that, but, having read the books, he's totally wrong for Sidney Chambers. None of the casting fills me with excitement really - good actors, wrong roles. Only the writer is still giving me hope for the adaptation, I'm hoping she can lift it from just being a Father Brown clone (which is pretty much what the books are.)

It will do well as this thing always does, but you're hyping it up in a very Samuel-like way (not this post but your posts on it in the past,) something you often call him out on (i.e The Crimson Field.)

I can't keep up I thought a big OAP audience was what a high rating drama needed to aim for? Now you say rating too old is bad??

And June is still the first half of 2014, plus with Broadchurch, Doc Martin, Foyle's War and Lewis all back in 2015 I don't think we will see a huge amount of big commissions until they start looking to 2016.

P.s. An early request for I Wanna Marry Harry ratings from tonight at 9pm on ITV2, I Wanna See How Much This Bombed!

Somehow I'd sooner watch a well produced drama that skews old than some of the trash that is aimed at younger viewers. I would think a lot of people under 60 would feel the same, as a lot of under 35 programming these days would fill a refuse tip and no one would notice or recall it.

Would like to see Sarah Lancashire tempted back to a comedy role. Shes ratings gold at the moment. But the last I remember is "Bloomin' Marvellous" which was so bad. Think it only managed one series.

Mmm....yes because Downton Abbey has only OAP's watching despite being set even earlier.

Have you ever thought of not taking everything so seriously in life?

The thing with Downton abbey however is that it has an ensemble cast, with characters of all age ranges. It appeals to people of all ages [especially the elderly] because although it is set 100years before now, people can relate to the characters. However because Granchester is a crime drama set in the 50s with just a couple of principal characters, although it will be extremely popular among the over 65 bracket, it may struggle below the 50yr old age range which could limit its overall audience. Just like Endeavour.

Looking at ITV's consolidated figures, and I didn't realise how low Family Matter's at 14:00 had fallen......

19/05 - 547k (10.0%)
20/05 - 450k (7.3%)
21/05 - 397k (8.2%)
22/05 - 425k (6.8%)
23/05 - 532k (8.2%)
26/05 - 334k (3.8%)
27/05 - 500k (6.8%)

How has this survived until the end of its run?
