Itv dont reinvest the profits they make into programming. The money goes to the shareholders. Their profits have quadrupled in the last 5 years but the programme budget has stayed the same as 5 years ago, which is evidence that the money they make from high rating shows like World Cup is not actually being reinvested into the schedules proportionally, if at all.
But I thought they were in a crisis?

But I thought they were in a crisis?
A crisis so terrible, their profits have gone up, influx of advertisers have meant some are turned away, most watched multi-channels, the biggest commercial channel in the UK - regularly competing with a publicly funded broadcaster. The reason ITV have done so poorly this year is the distinct lack of much drama/strong factual substance on the main channel, and some bad decisions regarding ITV2.

Big Brother: Power Trip: 782k (4%)
And there you all were, hoping to be able to stick the boot in. Yet it rated about the same as it always does on a Saturday.

The show's loyal audience shunned the buildup to the big game to tune in.

It's the only 8pm game I wont watch in full. I probably will see some of it through.
I'm more interested in the tiger programme on BBC2 tomorrow. Think it could get 2/3m even though it's facing Coronation Street.

BBC commentator Jonathan Pearce is being criticised here and on Twitter for a major cock-up involving goal line technology. Poor for the ratings *this post is not serious*
That was a bizarre moment to say the least.

The one shining light in the BBC's coverage which is mediocre overall has been Rio Ferdinand. Really rating his contributions so far and hope to see him used more as a pundit going forwards.

Agreed, with +1 it would have been very similar to the Saturday week before. I'm hoping that it can grow from now on now.

Tomorrow's night 8PM match will probably be the lowest rating 8pm match of the entire world cup as I cant see Iran vs Nigeria pulling in many casual viewers at all.
A little odd to have that game on primetime, but I guess they don't always think about when certain games are shown in different countries. Iran/Nigeria would have been better suited like Japan/Ivory Coast in a very late slot. I think it will average 4-4.5m.

This world cup really is rating well - well in excess of most Champions League games for the evening matches.

Will be interesting to see how ITV's Switzerland v Ecuador game did, as its two of the smallest names in the competition and wasn't a good game.

Astonishing for the France game coverage. I expected 5m coverage average tops. Impressive too for the late night Argentina game till 1.15am on a school night. Well ahead of anything itv showed all day!

Could be 3m for bbc1's "last pick" 8pm game tonight though. The soaps on itv should go through the roof. The Dentists could be getting 5m or more with the lead in and absence of competition.

There is a sizeable Nigerian minority in the UK but that wont be enough to be a ratings winner. Iran - not everyones favourite nation in the UK. One for the die hards imo.

Great night for BBC1.
Who has Germany/Portugal tonight?
I think that should do extremely well too.

ITV has the Germany v Portugal game. I'm looking forward to that match, should be a good un!

I'm stunned at how well this year's World Cup is rating. Maybe stunned is the wrong word but the big audiences are very pleasing to see. England v Uruguay will get a stonking rating, shame I'll be on a train during the match

Another brilliant World Cup rating, I haven't done any comparisons, but I suspect that the tournament is rating higher than 2006 and 2010 - if someone looks at rzt's takes, it maybe with found that analysis.

More importantly, it's Germany vs Portugal on ITV at 17:00 which, if the ratings so far are too go by, could bring in a massive peak and share.

Germany vs Portugal should do the same as Spain/Holland in my opinion. Another massive game.

Surely the 5pm start time on a work day will stop it matching the Spain/Holland rating?

My thinking too- I imagine the second half will have a sizeable peak however.

Should be a lot better than Friday, they are running a trailer for this week and advertising it at 7.00pm, already been on a few times this morning. Going by Emmerdale's recent ratings I'd be hoping for high 5's at least.

I noticed yesterday that the BBC started running teaser trailers for The Commonwealth Games.

As far as the trailer goes I noticed it doesn't actually state the time it just says all next week. Which is a bit silly.
