Some interesting bits there: Thursday 12 June (Brazil opener) All-day shares BBC One: 20.3% ITV: 28.1% inc +1 Primetime shares (19:00-23:00) BBC One: 16.2% ITV: 40.6% inc +1 They also give some shares for Friday and Saturday, but I can't copy and paste from that site easily on my phone. |

I know I sound like a broken record but Channel 5? It sort of annoys me how it seems nothing is being reported besides the World Cup (as I usually go from Twitter sources, but they all obsessed with the footie!)
I think C5 made a mistake though in launching just a week before the World Cup started. I don't think it had enough time to get people hooked. Also some of the scheduling has been off and the promo campaign should have been bigger. |

MediaGuardian gives an England match average of 14.4m (78%). I think they include half-time.

OMG Steven! What on earth was THAT from him last night? Even if it's not ratings gold, this series has produced some TV gold already in this first week and a half.

Also some of the scheduling has been off and the promo campaign should have been bigger. Agree with that, it should have started mid May-end of May, so it the World Cup would launch around its 3r-4th week, instead of during the first full week. |

1.25M for BB. Solid but not spectacular.
![]() http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/news/...6-million.html At least it bounced back a bit from a difficult few days. |

I'm slightly surprised ITV didn't stick a soap hour on last night; The Cube and Whicher struggled though they were both repeats. BBC one had a very strong evening with an excellent football figure. |

But I thought they were in a crisis?
![]() ![]() Quote:
A crisis so terrible, their profits have gone up, influx of advertisers have meant some are turned away, most watched multi-channels, the biggest commercial channel in the UK - regularly competing with a publicly funded broadcaster. The reason ITV have done so poorly this year is the distinct lack of much drama/strong factual substance on the main channel, and some bad decisions regarding ITV2.
Not quite sure why ITV are being apparently praised for being the biggest commercial channel which is purely historical or for regularly competeing with a public funded broadcaster because thats their job. As far as the BBC is concerned people should not be hoping for it to fail/fall in ratings terms like many seem to want. Some seem to celebrate if there is a poor BBC rating or the liscense fee gets threatened etc. We need a strong BBC and ITV to keep both competetive and then we get better programs. If one fails the other will ultimately fail too. |

Another brilliant World Cup rating, I haven't done any comparisons, but I suspect that the tournament is rating higher than 2006 and 2010 - if someone looks at rzt's takes, it maybe with found that analysis.

I imagine a lot of regular EE viewers would have given up waiting by 9pm at the latest. In 2013, EE was in a very bad place, so fewer people would've stuck around for it. Also, 5m would be a lot better than the 3.96m that it received in the 7pm slot on Friday.
Quote:
Surely they could be relaxed for just a few days. The 10pm news has aired later due to overrunning football or tennis before. A few scheduled days at 10:30pm isn't so bad.
Bold scheduling is sometimes just as important as the programming. Something which Michael Grade understood when he became BBC1 Controller. Quote:
Definitely. If it were to happen this year, I imagine more casual viewers would stick with it.
I think so. Would have done better than 5m that's for sure.

Bearing in mind that was on at 9pm so opposite the football I think that's a very good figure for it.

Wednesday- 1.20m excluding +1 **World Cup Starts** Thursday- 1.03m Friday (1)- 990,000 Friday (2)- 960,000 Saturday- 782,000 excluding +1 (against England build up before kick off) Sunday- 1.25m Ch5 missed a trick for tonight, they should be airing at 9pm because the Iran/Nigeria is not a big ratings winner I'm thinking, instead it's on at 10pm up against the very hyped Game of Thrones final. |

GoT runs 9PM-10:10PM so only a small clash of ~10mins.

Tomorrow's night 8PM match will probably be the lowest rating 8pm match of the entire world cup as I cant see Iran vs Nigeria pulling in many casual viewers at all.
I would seriously doubt The Dentists will do much tonight, I can't see it attracting much attention, Corrie lead-in or no. The Ryan Giggs documentary was opposite From There To Here which didn't do much in itself and got next to nothing. If viewers are going anywhere they'll presumably go to 24 Hours in A&E or the BA series on BBC2, wouldn't be surprised at all if ITV was fifth out of five. I think things like this work well on BBC2 and C4 (I can imagine it being a Cutting Edge or Modern Times) but not on primetime ITV. Perhaps ITV need some kind of overarching brand to make their one-off factual stand out a bit more. Quote:

Stupid airing EE early at 7 pm. If they have MOTD in prime they should air it another night.
Quote:
Absolutely - 1hr EE episodes on non football days was the way to go and its pretty much what ITV have done.

I think that's a bad idea, the big attraction of the BBC news is the permanence and if you start messing around with that you ruin it. I know they move it for sport but for an episode of 'stEnders that could go on any time it's a poor move. People just won't understand why. And in addition, they can't show it at 10pm and move the news tonight or tomorrow because they're showing live matches straight after the news as well. It really is 7pm or nothing.
I didn't realise there were other matches airing after. In which case, I think not airing at all would be the best option. 7pm is an awful slot for EE. Even an hour long on this coming Friday and Sunday at 8pm with no other episodes through the week would be better. I'm not big football fan but South Korea v Algeria doesn't sound like a big match on ITV primetime this Sunday. BBC could just aired EE instead of Antiques Roadshow. At least next week the scheduling is better apart from the two clashes, which were ITV's fault rather than BBC. I guess the BBC will be hoping for an overrunning big match on Wimbledon on Monday (which is unlikely) to push EE to an 8:30pm onwards start time. And the same on Friday, except a 9pm start time. |

I notice a random episode of the largely forgotten daytime quiz show "Breakaway" was shown on BBC Two from 1:30pm.
It looks like it's just filler ahead of the tennis at Eastbourne starting tomorrow but it's an odd choice of filler IMO. I would have expected Cagney or Lacey or even good ol' Coast but a repeat of a quiz that I can't recall even repeats of being broadcast for the best part of 2 years? Unless after Wimbledon, they'll put on a full repeat run, perhaps to test the waters for a recommission? |

Wasn't the England game on Saturday originally penned in for the 2am slot? That would have been interesting to see the ratings.
Did we ever see the ratings for Japan v Ivory Coast that time? |

From DS
The BBC's World Cup 2014 coverage topped the Sunday ratings, according to overnight figures. At 7.30pm, the match between France and Honduras scored an average 7.6 million (35.5%), while Argentina vs Bosnia-Herzegovina was seen by 3.8m (39.4%) at 10.30pm. Countryfile's earlier broadcast appealed to 4.6m (25.3%) at 6.30pm. On BBC Two, Sea City gathered 1.4m (7.3%) at 7.30pm, followed by I Bought a Rainforest with 1.3m (6.2%) at 8pm and Wildfires 2014 with 1.2m (5.3%) at 9pm. A classic Bottom episode amused 1.0m (6.5%) at 10.30pm in tribute to the late Rik Mayall. A repeat of Mock the Week tickled 1.1m (5.8%) at 10pm. ITV's repeat of The Cube entertained 2.5m (12.2%) at 7.30pm, followed by a rerun of The Suspicions of Mr Whicher with 2.1m (9.5%) at 8.30pm (142,000/0.8% on +1). On Channel 4, Born in the Wild intrigued 814k (3.8%) at 8pm, while the latest Fargo brought in 946k (4.2%) at 9pm (115k/0.7%). Channel 5's Illegal Immigrant and Proud brought in 647k (3.0%) at 8pm (101k/0.4%), followed by Big Brother: Power Trip with 1.1m (5.0%) at 9pm (147k/0.8%). |
