I still say it's not as unappealing as South Korea vs Algeria is at 8pm on Sunday, on ITV. I think it'll do OK tonight, if it's getting over three million after midnight on a Sunday, albeit for Argentina, it can do that in primetime because I think people get caught up in the fun of the World Cup.
I would seriously doubt The Dentists will do much tonight, I can't see it attracting much attention, Corrie lead-in or no. The Ryan Giggs documentary was opposite From There To Here which didn't do much in itself and got next to nothing. If viewers are going anywhere they'll presumably go to 24 Hours in A&E or the BA series on BBC2, wouldn't be surprised at all if ITV was fifth out of five.
I think things like this work well on BBC2 and C4 (I can imagine it being a Cutting Edge or Modern Times) but not on primetime ITV. Perhaps ITV need some kind of overarching brand to make their one-off factual stand out a bit more.

I think it probably is rating better because so far the ratings for the 11pm matches have been higher, in general, than the lunchtime matches in the last two tournaments. That's not just because England have been in that slot, obviously, it seems there's a bigger audience, and specifically a bigger audience of football fans, about at 11pm than there is at 2pm. That's based on a weekend, mind, we'll see what the next few days bring us.

The difference this week though is that the Beeb have more primetime matches, four consecutive days, so that means 'stEnders can only go on Thursday - when it'll be opposite the England match and so likely to do even worse - and on Friday when they're showing it at the usual time. That would presumably have meant a week's break from last Thursday to this and you have to question if that's in the show's best interests either. ITV have benefited from the fact they're generally not showing live football on Corrie days.

I think that's a bad idea, the big attraction of the BBC news is the permanence and if you start messing around with that you ruin it. I know they move it for sport but for an episode of 'stEnders that could go on any time it's a poor move. People just won't understand why. And in addition, they can't show it at 10pm and move the news tonight or tomorrow because they're showing live matches straight after the news as well. It really is 7pm or nothing.

Yes, ITV looked very weak last night. I don't really understand their desparation not to put soaps on Sundays except it very rare occasions when they fling them from pillar to post every other night. Certainly makes more sense to put extra Corries on a Sunday, when they can be sold as a "special", than an otherwise bog standard Thursday.
