As you see, in 2002 they simulcast all the knockout games (and also Spain vs Ireland) but by 2004 ITV decided not to bother and it hasn't happened since.

As we've mentioned before, in Des Lynam's book he said in 1998 the Beeb said to ITV they wanted to show all the England games and they didn't care if they did as well, but ITV took issue with that and they didn't.”

Thanks, Steve. I had a vague memory, but I really wasn't sure.

Tonight I think the USA match will rate higher in casual viewers then the Iran match on the BBC.

Yes, they saw sense and put the day and time on it yesterday. They ran the trail without any days or times for two days.

Fantastic ratings for the BBC World Cup matches yesterday. 7.7million for France v Honduras is very high considering Honduras is a minnow! I expected about 6-6.5million. And a very strong share for the Argentina game too, late into the night.

Underwhelming rating for Itv, a 25pct share is the lowest yet and about 9share points below BBC1's 5pm game the day before involving two similarly lowly ranked football teams. I suppose the Itv weekly reach crisis is once again visible with that rating.

Yes, although the last couple of weeks haven't been quite as strong as the rest of 2014, with focus on some of the weaker characters, and the contrived storyline to improve representation of disabilities.

Stories seem to be perking up a bit this week, though.

Last year even the 'big' stories weren't interesting and the pace of it all was slower than continental drift. Lately it hasn't been as strong as post Lucy Beale murder but is still decent.

Just a shame for the show that when an interesting/important episode comes along it comes up against World Cup scheduling.

Exactly they should have put the time and day from the start of the trailers. I mean it's like they just realised they best informe us viewes there's a change of time for EE. It's just silly it took them so long to realise.

Though the World Cup has hardly sprung up from nowhere; just like the Commonwealth Games they've had plenty of warning that it's coming and to plan accordingly.

For the Games and Wimbledon it might be worth the BBC choosing a schedule and sticking to it, whether that means keeping the Games and Wimbledon on BBC One or Two whatever happens instead of swinging them between the channels. The last thing EastEnders needs is last minute scheduling changes.

BBC schedulers seem to be as off their game as England footballers.

On one hand, the current Germany vs Portugal scoreline might limit the peak, but given the teams involved it may make little difference akin to Spain vs Netherlands.

EE would probably have rated better in its usual 8pm slot tonight and Friday but on BBC2 than shunted forward to 7 pm on bbc1. It did ok there during the Olympics didn't it, c5m?

Not sure it's the same, really. Germany winning this comfortably is not really that shocking, even with the talent in Portugal's lineup, especially being a man down.

Surprised our Social Media Commentator hasn't been along this evening. Might be because Adrian Chiles was trending on Twitter for the right reasons for once...most seemed to agree with him about Muller's role in the red card.

24 Hours In A&E renewed for a further 30 episodes. Potential overkill by Channel 4.

The England v Italy match caught many - but not all - out but would you do better predicting the Uruguay v England match? How will Coronation Street and EastEnders fair in new look schedules? Will Friday Night Dinner return to a strong figure?

Remember to make your predictions for week twelve of the DS Ratings Prediction Game. The schedule can be found
HERE - just hit Quote, delete the quote marks and get predicting.

Thank you in advance to everyone who takes part.

Unless I'm going mad the draw works so that the fixture dates and times for each 'group slot' are assigned before the draw takes place, so it's entirely the luck of the draw as to which games end up where - hence Germany v Portugal being on at teatime, for example, or South Korea's second match kicking off at 4am Seoul time. Obviously there is some influence exerted by the broadcasters - most notably, as someone else mentioned, England v Italy being moved forward from 2am London time - but it's certainly not an international version of the Premier League's 'TV can pick and choose which games to put where' system.

What an absolutely horrid shame - it was the best episode yet (and that's saying something!!). Guess it wasn't helped by episode eight being the weakest of the lot but even so, something of that quality should be doing at least 2m+. Hopeful of an uplift for the finale, ala Broadchurch, though like Broadchurch why on earth you'd tune in for the finale when you haven't a clue what's happened in the rest of the series is beyond me.

Why? It's not over and above what's happened every two summers for lord knows how long :P People get hooked in by the hype over the opening days, then when they've watched three matches a day for a weekend they can't break the habit.

Looks like we're set for a massive peak when England beat Germany on penalties in the first semi-final, stick 9:35am on July 9th in the diaries folks!!
