Looking at ITV's consolidated figures, and I didn't realise how low Family Matter's at 14:00 had fallen......
19/05 - 547k (10.0%) 20/05 - 450k (7.3%) 21/05 - 397k (8.2%) 22/05 - 425k (6.8%) 23/05 - 532k (8.2%) 26/05 - 334k (3.8%) 27/05 - 500k (6.8%) How has this survived until the end of its run? |

Not sure if anyone will find this interesting, but here are the 16-34 audiences for BGT and Corrie last week. The percentages quoted are the percentage of the total audience that were aged 16-34 (ie. the 16-34 skew).
Monday Britain's Got Talent: 2.11m (22.0%) Coronation Street: 1.45m (16.1%) Britain's Got Talent Results: 1.57m (19.3%) Tuesday Britain's Got Talent: 1.87m (22.7%) Coronation Street: 1.61m (18.6%) Britain's Got Talent Results: 1.46m (21.0%) Wednesday Britain's Got Talent: 1.78m (21.0%) Coronation Street: 1.68m (18.4%) Britain's Got Talent Results: 1.40m (19.7%) Thursday Britain's Got Talent: 1.74m (20.6%) Coronation Street: 1.56m (17.0%) Britain's Got Talent Results: 1.50m (19.4%) Saturday Britain's Got Talent: 1.48m (19.1%) Britain's Got Talent Results: 1.09m (17.8%) Looks like the slightly older skewing Corrie means the BGT results skew a bit older than the performances. Corrie skewed younger than it gets credit for though. BGT had a real mare on Saturday though: very low total numbers and an older than normal skew. Suggests it was the weather though as a nice Saturday is more likely to drag younger viewers away than older viewers. And also, here are the 16-34 audiences for the BGT audition shows: 12/04: 2.60m (23.5%) 19/04: 2.06m (22.2%) 26/04: 2.20m (21.8%) 03/05: 2.20m (23.0%) 10/05: 2.22m (23.6%) 17/05: 2.08m (22.4%) 25/05: 1.99m (23.6%) The audition shows skew a little younger than the live shows. Again you could possibly put that down to the scheduling as I recall seeing a similar pattern in previous years too. |

Itv do not axe shows these days mid-run. They could rate absolutely disasterously, but theyll continue to air every single episode in the same kind of slot. Just like Edge of Heaven which fell to around 1.3million. Its not the way any normal commercial channel should work. Even the BBC doesnt stick with such stinkers, they kick them off the schedules pretty sharp-ish if they underperform so badly.
You can guarantee if ITV had pulled Edge of Heaven, a thread would have appeared here along the lines of "Why have ITV dropped decent comedy like Edge of Heaven yet still keep rubbish like Britain's got no talent on every week of the year, ITV are idiots" and then those people may not watch ITV anymore. |

The thing with Downton abbey however is that it has an ensemble cast, with characters of all age ranges. It appeals to people of all ages [especially the elderly] because although it is set 100years before now, people can relate to the characters. However because Granchester is a crime drama set in the 50s with just a couple of principal characters, although it will be extremely popular among the over 65 bracket, it may struggle below the 50yr old age range which could limit its overall audience. Just like Endeavour. Granchester also, although not quite as many cast members does have a range of ages. James Norton has now had his profile raised thanks to Happy Valley and is the lead character. Why are you always so negative about ITV dramas? Why does it make you feel better to slag them off? |

I'm sure he has a template of already written posts, just changes the names of the shows around. |

What the BGT skew does show though, is that its even less luctrative than IAC which I'm sure has a couple of 3m+ 16-34 skew and 2m on weekdays. |

But surely it is in the best interests of most viewers for Itv to drop shows like Edge of Heaven? Only 1.3million people would be annoyed. But even replacing it with Lewis repeats, would rate double that. People wont stop watching Itv anymore just because a show like Edge of Heaven is pulled from the schedules.
Im not always negative. And by the way, Ive never called Broadchurch boredchurch. You have mistaken me for someone else. I didn't say you did, that was Andy. That was Robbie's catchphrase when he felt threatened by a popular ITV drama. |

Corrie is pretty old skewing percentage wise, but because its total audience is pretty big it actually does better in 16-34 than most give it credit for. Beating three out of four BGT results shows there for example and not too far off the performance shows.

Yes I have. That's why I love your pun-tastic programme titles so much. Names like Bore & Order and Granny-Chester never fail to cheer me up. They're just so witty and clever.
Keep 'em coming. You're a genius. |

Andy Murray would of boosted ITV4 tonight as he advances into the semi finals of the French Open.

Some peaks for boxing fights on Sky Sports Box Office in recent years:
Hatton v Mayweather Jnr [2007]: 1.4m [04:50] Haye v Harrison [2010]: 246,200 [22:20] Haye v Klitschko [2011]: 1.23m [22:50] Froch v Groves [2013]: 253,100 [22:50] Froch v Groves II [2014]: 477,200 [22:35] |

Come on Andy, be honest. Did you watch Edge of Heaven? Do you honestly think it deserved to be allowed to continue its run? It started with way over 3 million viewers. It ended up with just over 1m. ITV would have served their audience better with Doc Martin repeats. Doc Martin is a well made, viewer friendly drama that people enjoy watching. Edge of Heaven could have finished its run at 10.35pm after the News. Those who wanted to watch it would still have been able to and the 9pm slot would have been more accessible to a wider audience.
If you watched Edge of Heaven, did you like it? If so, why? They don't know it was rating poorly, to them it didn't matter. It annoys them more when they would usually be replaced by a thrown together repeat, often a completely different genre. People in this thread who seemingly like every high rating programme and hate every low rating programme wouldn't understand this. |

No I didn't. But if you axe it mid run, you annoy those viewers, then you axe The Americans, and annoy the people who were following that, then you axe something else and annoy them. Before you know it the entire audience has been annoyed at least once by ITV axing their 'favourite programme'

I notice in the comments section on the main pages where the article of ITV resting Law & Order UK, has several posts of 'the only thing on ITV worth watching.....', 'why would they axe this great drama' etc. I would say its far from their best drama. Not related to what your saying, but the amount of people on the GMB forum who seem to turn on just at that moment they talk to Richard Arnold for 5minutes is amazing. |

Holby is looking vulnerable. 4m might seem decent now but if it gets 4m while a programme on ITV gets 6m it will be looked at more closely. It's close to Waterloo Road territory.

If ITV start competing in that 8pm slot next year then I feel it might knock Holby down to axe territories and give the BBC an easier decision to cancel it. At the moment its still rating respectably.
Losing the football I believe will come as a blessing in disguise, allowing the Tuesday schedule to improve massively. |

I am not sure that there have been that many shows pulled either by either side but they do occur when they produce rubbish. |
