I looked up that 2012 edition: it was the London mayoral election debate. ronant gives the average last night to 2dp: 1.11m, more than double the Tuesday rating.”

If only Boris & Paxman had taken to mobility scooters instead of a tandem Newsnight would have possibly rated close to 3m. And if they had tossed in Jon Snow's audition for X-Factor...5m?

6.25m (35%) for the BBC news at ten but that's not tape-checked (it was slightly extended).

Decent rating and share for Australia v Netherlands at teatime (3.76m/32% inc +1, may or may not need tape-checking).

Eastenders definitely seems to be the Ratings Thread whipping boy

Indeed, remember we have been told that an England game on ITV will cause lower ratings than if it was on the BBC, so who's surprised?

I think it will still be good ratings tonight especially if England do well, Just a few million fewer because its not on BBC One.

So some will just sit there twidling their thumbs while England play in a big World Cup game. There might be some who prefer not to watch ITV, but that just silly.

BBC1 does have a default audience in some programmes simply because it is the most trusted channel of all. Viewers might not watch some things on ITV that they would watch on BBC1, but a landmark football match. Unlikely. If they do, then its very petty.

Yep, there'll be a lot of excitement about the EastEnders figure for next Monday night. It has half an hour after Coronation St finishes, but how many people will bother turning on halfway through. And, although EastEnders has held up a bit better than might be expected in rare St clashes in the past, the EastEnders episodes in question have usually had big events.

Last night Spain's World Cup elimination was watched by a total of 59.51m in Europe's Top 6 Markets;

UK - 8.00m (38.7%)
Germany - 15.29m (51.4%)
France - 9.39m (38.3%)
Spain - 13.23m (67.6%)
Italy - 8.56m (31.5%)
Holland - 5.04m (share unavailable)

Interesting to note too that in Holland 7.87m people watched the Oranje win over Australia with a share of a whopping 88.1%!! Peak was 8.80m, meaning that more than half the population of Holland were watching at some point.

The thing is that if you don't like the commentary there are many alternative ones going around, the Peter Serafinowicz on his blog is hysterical. Or you can listen to the radio and mute TV sound. Loads of way around it.

Very poor rating for the Croatia v Cameroon match, only 23pct. That is way less than what two similar teams like South Korea v Russia got in that timeslot the night before when they got 33pct on BBC One. Just proves once again that the Itv weekly reach crisis does have an impact on the ratings. France v Honduras would never have got 7.7mill on itv for instance.

With the weather right now being absolutely dire, you could add on an additional 1-2million for the England game compared to what Itv would've expected in hot weather. The target itv will have internally for tonight will be a 16m+ broadcast avg, peaking with about 22million.

Excellent ratings once more for the Beeb, another c8million rating. The Beeb have been clever with their match pickings, they know that in the last round of the group stages, the BBC3/Itv4 audience will cannabilise the main BBC1/Itv1 audience ratings. So theyve gone for the matches which will maximise BBC1's ratings.

Up on last year's equivalent episode yet again (1.20m/6.8%).

I must be imagining this glorious sunshine right now in the Midlands then?

Its raining right now in the South East. Considering there is a higher proportion of residents in the South East compared to other parts of England, this will be reflected in the ratings.

Your thoughts on the relatively low shares for Itvs World Cup football coverage not involving the big teams in comparison to similar kind of games on the Beeb? Do you agree about the Itv weekly reach crisis impacting their ratings?

Its not raining in London at the moment so ITV ratings should be down then.

Or is that a simple isolated shower, indicative of something that is not widespread over the south east? The Met Office weather page for the SE doesn't seem to state widespread rain, or even showery spells

I'm sure they will. I can't even be bothered to read the BB Ratings Thread today, it'll just be the usual misinformation and hysteria that always gets written regardless of how it rates.

I have two episodes to catch up on as I've been very busy the last two days. Will squeeze them both in before the football.
