He`s too busy doing voiceovers. For someone who made a big deal out of doing a second series of Life on Mars (as if to say, "I wouldn`t normally lower myself...") he`s more than willing to lend his voice to advertising any old tat.
John Simm said he felt tired doing Life On Mars as he was in every scene and found the shoot demanding. I think that was his explanation, or part of it, for not doing a third series.

I preferred Ashes to Ashes anyway. It was less miserable. Heaven forbid these 'tired' actors ever end up working in Tesco's! That would physically make them go home knackered! These people choose to become an actor and then complain when they get the prospect of a decent job.

State of Play was the best thing John Simm ever did - not a lot of laughs in that either.

This looks like a barrel of laughs.

So, even his future projects are miserable! Why can't he just try and do something lighter? It might actually make a pleasant change.

Ashes To Ashes had Gene Hunt front and centre. Of course it was brilliant!

John Simm loves misery porn dramas. Him and Jimmy McGovern and most of Channel 4's drama output! Why? Gritty BAFTA that's why!

Can't grumble at the opposition.

* From There to Here is one of the biggest drama turkeys of 2014 so far, if not the biggest.
* BBC Two's smoking documentary rated very poorly last week, will attract a very different audience anyway.
* Hard to see ITV's Ryan Giggs doc doing well in Total People, but might lure some male 16-34's away.
* C4's Comedy Gala usually rates solidly but no more than that.

So no excuses against that lot really. It's in the perfect slot.

Even non fans usually tune into the launch because they like to see what crazy people go in.

John Simm needs to look at Happy Valley. Dark, gritty and miserable in places, but also numerous and, more importantly, very human. The characterisation was natural and realistic. It's all well and good being 'arty' and thinking you're brilliant, but sometimes it's a case of "oh no, not him again. He is so blooming miserable!" And your perception of the show is established in your mind before you've even seen it!

John Simm loves misery porn dramas. The only recent ones that had a dash of humour were Life On Mars and Doctor Who. It was ages ago that he did something full on funny with Men Of The World.
I haven`t seen any of it but isn`t Mad Dogs supposed to have some laughs in it?

Well, technically an actors job is to entertain and being versatile is part of that rhetoric. I'mnot for a minute saying that any particular actor should be there for my sole pleasure, but I do like to see actors being able to play varied styles and not just doom and gloom. So, to answer your question, yes, an actor is there to please me, and everyone else too.

There is literally no momentum around BB this year, if it wasn't for this forum/Twitter I wouldn't even know it was launching tonight.

What last year showed though is that it doesn't have to launch extremely well to have a good series overall.

Had a look and Big Brother really has poor competition tonight so should do well because of the nothing-else-on thing.

Now that Des is selling Channel 5, I notice BB didn't make it to the front cover of the Daily television guide this year and the critic has been allowed to drop its rating to four stars. I suppose their 5 on 5 feature will go soon as well.
Somehow the ageing, rather conservative readership of the Daily Express aren't interested in a programme they probably dislike anyway and once 5 goes to Viacom BB will be ignored totally.

What a redundant comment. You could say the same about pretty much anything.

Nice over-analysis. Do you buys Desmond's rags purely to report back on such pressing matters? The Daily Star's coverage has increased this year, any theories on that?

Do you actually read posts before replying? Whenever BB starts you are automatically on the defensive, getting offended by any negative post written about it. BB is a shit, pathetic programme that requires zero intellect to watch it and is full of people with zero intellect participating. If you like it all well and good, but Yorkie made a tongue in cheek comment that was not to be taken seriously and you took it OTT seriously. There is also an element of fact in yorkies post though. Most normal people will not even consider watching BB if it was the only thing on. I doubt if you would if it wasn't on C5. Sorry, rant over. And breathe...........

Yes. The Daily Star is to newspapers what Big Brother is to television, trash.

You should read yours before hitting submit.

"Most normal people." Get off your high horse, it's just telly. If I get defensive it's because I don't like the tone of people like you.

Every year is the same. Posters dare to speak negatively about BB and you act like a victim, as if you are being kicked and kicked yourself. If you want protection from people like me, buy yourself some bubble wrap. After all, as you say, it's only telly.
