It'd make more sense to just pull Stand By Your Man altogther. It was a dating show; it may have worked. It didn't.

I'll answer my own question (partially), as earlier I couldn't see what was right in front of me.

Of those 640k, approximately 260k were attributable to the EastEnders omnibus as a whole (= 555k - 295k). That's 41% of all timeshifted TV (after same-day) during its slot, quite a lot for a programme that overnighted with a share of 5.9%.

And of course, it's the Friday portion of the omnibus that is apparently most affected - and it looks like that timeshifted by at least 500k, like it did the week before (560k) and the week before that (530k), as per Broadcast magazine. No other portions of the omnibus have been making the Broadcast top 30 timeshifters' chart lately.

I think C14E was referring to America's Got Talent when he/she talked about a 'premiere'. It was the premiere of Rising Star, but not AGT. Rising Star will continue to play on Sundays at 9E/8C/7M.

The talk of "Gold standard" data is starting to look a bit iffy. They should be ashamed of some of the data they're producing at the moment, whether it be the weekly incorrect figures for EastEnders, or not being able to find the time a football match has kicked-off.

In fact, having a big bar on screen on the right just restricted the production value and made the show look a big cheap and dated.

Overall, the BBC has nothing to worry about with Rising Star being a potential threat. The Voice and the Midwives will deal with Rising Star with ultimate ease. Also when Itv promote Rising Star for weeks if not months before hand, there will be huge media interest and pressure on the show to be good right from the off. Inevitably the show will not live up to the hype [as with 99% of shows which are hugely hyped] and the press reaction will be very bad, mark my words.”

Interesting stuff, as always, Neil. Maybe they should just go back to adding the omnibus viewers to the first screening figures as they used to before 2002. I don't see the point in reporting them separately if they can't get the split right.

Probably opening a can marked Ratings Thread Finest Juicy Worms here, but might the same thing be happening when Saturday's X Factor shows are repeated on ITV on Sunday lunchtimes (or whatever time they repeat it)?

I'd mentioned that a few times in the past. I think if you record a show when it's first broadcast, but watch it on PVR after a repeat has aired on the same channel, then the viewing is added to the repeat?

Obviously repeats on different channels aren't impacted, and I also think channels use audio codes to avoid this issue but I don't know for certain if this holds true. I emailed BARB in the past but didn't get a reply.

Producers can only make the shows that are commissioned by the channels. If Channel 5 want it then they make it. And if nobody at Channel 5 could tell it was a flop, I'm not sure why itv would be anymore sure of its fate.

The codes are really the broadcasters' domain - but it's rude of BARB not to reply. I've found them quite helpful myself.
