It probably do okay if was advertised on Big Brother and change the storyline's to make it better. I am still unlikely to tune in through.

Hi Chris. I don't unfortunately, but I expect it will follow a similar scheduling pattern to last year and launch around Celebrity Big Brother this August. I'll post as soon as I hear any news.

I'm open minded about the idea at this stage.

I do think it's dangerous to dismiss the benefits of picking up an established brand like Waterloo Road, which is also at least a realistic target, when C5 is always going to find it harder to launch something completely new when they don't have that great track record to begin with.

The obvious point to make here as well is that C4 is enjoying plenty of success with Hollyoaks. I know that's in particularly rude health at the moment but there was a lengthy spell where it wasn't doing that great in Total People for such an expensive show and yet they stuck by it because it attracts a lot of 16-34s.

If another channel can see potential in it despite its poor ratings performance on the face of it then it's surely not for us to write the idea off immediately. It's only because it's C5 with no reputation for successful homegrown drama that people are doing so, but until recently they had limited success with light entertainment until another established show in Celebrity Big Brother came along.

Suspects was recommissioned with viewing figures below 700,000 and I suspect despite skewing rather old. So maybe there are genuine reasons to think C5's attitude to homegrown drama is changing.”

Suspects in a better slot could do decently and I imagine for a homegrown drama is cheap to produce. I think they should experiment with a few drama pilots to see what stick and funding wise, even if they cannot fully afford to finance it, they could easily find a co-production partner.

Ideally crime drama should be the sort of drama they should be making since it's compatible with the US dramas but perhaps diverge a little in terms of genre,

Some Waterloo Road numbers - highest three episodes of 2013, with Adults 16-34 number as well:

- 03/01 - 4.52m (17.4%) => 1.02m (22.2%)
- 07/02 - 4.50m (18.0%) => 961k (20.1%)
- 07/03 - 4.75m (19.5%) => 916k (20.2%)

Add another 800k for iPlayer: http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/mediacent...ance-feb13.pdf

And Celebrity Big Brother's highest three numbers of 2014, with Adults 16-34 number too:

- 03/01 - 3.69m (14.7%) => 1.16m (23.9%)
- 26/01 - 3.62m (12.3%) => 1.19m (19.9%)
- 29/01 - 3.71m (15.1%) => 1.30m (26.4%)

...Hmm. I was trying to provide a case for Channel 5 picking Waterloo Road up except I've failed. It's an interesting one. I'd like to see it happen, but that doesn't mean it should. And Channel 5 shouldn't really care about '800k on iPlayer' because that is meaningless for them.

However, Channel 5's top 5 Adults 16-34 outside of Big Brother....

- 745k - FILM: 21 Jump Street
- 709k - FILM: Grown Ups
- 687k - Benefits Britain: Life on the Dole
- 679k - The Big Benefits Row: Live
- 558k - She's 78, He's 39: Age Gap Live

And you can see the case for them taking it.

Clearly an exceptional Adults 16-34 performance by CBB in January that went greatly under reported. For the third biggest commercial network to be pulling in as much as a 26% share of the viewing here is significant.

But I don't think that automatically makes Waterloo Road's audience profile poor by any means, because it isn't. Light entertainment and sporting events usually pull in more 16-34's than drama, anyway. An awful lot of young people watch it and I can see why C5 might be interested.

16.491m for the USA v Belgium match, slightly behind the Portugal one a couple of weeks ago in the end, but still some great ratings. (The higher household rating didn't translate to higher viewers)

Surprising. Excellent rating but felt sure it would better that game. Interesting to see if they can build on their performances in this World Cup, if only because I would like to see what might happen to the sport's profile over there.

21 Jump Street skewed very young considering it aired at 10pm and only got 1.1m so I imagine 5 was pleased with that result.

Football still has a way to go but I imagine if the USA continues to do well, it will raise the profile of MLS which lags behind the likes of NFL, NBA, Baseball, Tennis and Golf.

Bloody hell, those CBB skews are outstanding. They should look back at that series to make future series because it was such an incredible series.

That is a huge 16-34 figure for 21 jump street considering it only just went over 1m overall.

21 Jump Street was split into two parts in the officials, like a lot of Channel 5 films are, I think because there was a news bulletin in between:

FILM:21 JUMP STREET (2012) (SUN 21:59-23:03) 1.413m [+1: 179k]
FILM:21 JUMP STREET (2012) (SUN 23:10-24:09) 948k [+1: 181k]

Including +1 gives you 1.592m and 1.129m for each part. So using an average weighted by the duration of each part, the film overall was seen by 1.370m consolidated including +1. That was up from an overnight of 1.072m (9.4%) including +1 - although that would obviously include the bit in between as well as all the ads.

Assuming (as is likely) D.M.N.'s figure of 745k 16-34s is the consolidated number for the first and higher-rating part (inc +1), then the 16-34 skew for that part was 46.8%. Still extremely high, it goes without saying.

GBBO is getting an 'Apprentice-You're fired' style spin off after the main show.

“THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF - AN EXTRA SLICE
This year, The Great British Bake Off will be moving to BBC1. Taking up residency on BBC2 will be a new sister show, An Extra Slice, which will bring witty & intelligent analysis of the main show. Each week, our resident host will be joined by a panel of Celebrity Bake Off fans who will look at back at key moments & bakes from this week’s episode. We’ll also interview the latest eliminated baker live in studio and feature unseen footage from the Bake Off tent.

Does this suggest that GBBO could be moving to 21:00 with the spin off at 22:00?

I was thinking this. I imagine we'll have GBBO for 10 weeks from early August followed by the Apprentice leading up to Christmas (with the final on the Sunday before Christmas).

There was a daytime show like this many years ago with Hanah Gordon. Not sure its a primetime show although we could say the same about Countryfile.

Living said it didn't fit their portfolio (though I'm not quite sure what Living's portfolio is, it comes across as a very mixed channel)

At least CPD got a UK pickup, shame its not going to be in HD though.

Well done to the BBC for predicting that Murray would go out thus deliberately picking the 5pm QF games. May I borrow the crystal ball once they are finished with it Sam?

Sky Arts have a similar show with Frank Skinner & Joan Bakewell.

Sunday at 6pm would be the ideal slot for this type of show.

They are doing the right thing in creating so few episodes over time, it just makes the screening so much more anticipated as an event.
With regards to Christmas 2015-it does so well as the highlight on New Years Day, I would have thought it would go there.
