Had ITV had far more important programmes to show, such as the Giggs documentary and a fond farewell to the forces sweetheart Tina of Coronation Street.

Agreed. I don't get that decision at all - I'm really surprised.

Yeah, but it's nothing new. They've been doing these soap-character tribute shows for years. I seem to remember "Farewell Vera" being particularly successful.

09:15 - D-Day 70: 1.27m (28.0%)
13:30 - D-Day 70: 1.62m (20.6%)

If BBC averaged less than 2 million for D-Day, then you can see why ITV did not cover it.

As for yesterday evening, I'm afraid that is best described as a car crash....

BBC News (18:30) - 4.19m (29.5%)
Regional News (19:00) - 3.83m (23.7%)
The One Show: 2.68m (15.1%)
EastEnders: 5.48m (29.5%)
Inspector George Gently: 2.59m (13.2%)
The Graham Norton Show: 3.11m (23.0%)

Everything is bound to be low because of the weather.

That figure for EastEnders is awful, the share as well. Despite its growth in quality its dropped (and I know its Friday) to levels it got against BGT. Terrible. The news at 6:30pm did well (as it always does 0 strong share).

The sub 2million ratings for the D-Day coverage shows exactly the reason why for ITV covering it would be stupid. They would have averaged below 300k during the day - only for the amusement of this forum.

I wonder how Corrie did? I'm guessing around 6.5m ep1 and 6.8m ep 2.

Is it possible that "Farewell Tina" dented EastEnders last night?

Itv are playing a blinder at destroying any momentum EastEnders was gaining: first, the Britain's Got Talent semi-finals. Then the first of two Tuesday Emmerdale hour-long clashes. Then the first of two filler Coronation Street "documentaries" last night (with one to come on Monday).

And now the World Cup and summer.

We won't be seeing EastEnders getting back up to 6 or 7m for a few months now.

Quite a poor set of ratings there.

Regional News dented for airing at 7pm. The One Show absolutely destroyed by airing opposite Corrie. If the 7pm slot is full, surely it should have taken the night off.

George Gently also flopped, strange as the competition was weak. I hasn't even realised that HIGNFY had finished.

And least said about EastEnders the better "Bad for Easti" maybe.

I think those figures are decent for the D-Day programmes. Most BBC1 daytime shows get 1.2m from 9.15 up to Bargain Hunt, and the afternoon shows get around 1m apart from Pointless. EastEnders was dented by the Corrie filler programme but it's momentum seemed to disappear after BGT week.

Oh yeah I hadn't thought about the Farewell Tina, although I can't see it doing massively well, perhaps around 3.5-4m. The doc on Monday about Gail will do better given she's a popular, long standing and loved character.

I'm assuming you are being intentionally comical. But just in case:

- Fairly obvious that the regional news would be dented by Emmerdale rather than the sub-3.5m ITV national news as usual
- The One Show going from 20% on Thursday to 15% on Friday when going against Corrie rather than Emmerdale is not being "absolutely destroyed"
- Gently was a repeat.

Farewell Tina definitely dented EastEnders. EastEnders is down not just due to the weather. Counter programming has hurt it.

People are moaning at that EE rating. Look at ED that's shocking. Even Corri couldn't get over 7mil.

Not a great figure, not as bad as it could have been though. Anyone got the peak please? And does that figure include +1?

Unless I've got it wrong, George Gently won the 9pm slot with just 2.6m.

You cheeky little scamp!

EastEnders will have a tough few weeks over the Summer with The World Cup and Commonwealth Games scheduling. The thing is to have a big storyline for August time to get people hooked again.
