It got 15% for its second section (against Street Patrol UK - with 23% - and Bargain Hunt with 32%).

Still, the premiere was over treble the slot average. I'm sure it still did well by 5USA standards.

I would repeat this one on the main channel as they did with Longmire. Either on Saturday nights or maybe do an all day marathon run on Bank Holiday Monday using the 6 episodes screened on 5USA to that point, and the rest on Mondays at 2:15PM.

Mmm...no denying ITV's ratings are poor over the daytime but I think given BBC1's higher age skew, it allows them to hold onto a bigger number as I imagine many older viewers stay indoors when its this hot. Even rpt's of Perfection beat most of ITV's line-up.

I do believe though that if BBC1 had adverts they would be much lower during the daytime.

Well, I believe that if the content was compelling enough on ITV Daytime, then people would watch it, ads or no ads. That's how it works for other programmes that are a success on ITV, so I don't see why the daytime should be any different.


Anyway, don't your older-skewed BBC audience tend to potter around in the garden or allotment during the day, wearing straw hats to protect them from the sun? And go to tea dances in the afternoon?

I don't know the answer, but does One Born Every Minute look to you as though it's crying out for an extended 20 episode run next year?

I know last night the opening ceremony affected everything else a bit, but it's been rating low all series and the overnights are down 20% on the last run between February 24 and April 28 of this year.

I think its obvious how BBC1 daytime skews to be able to hold onto 1m+ for most it during the day in the height of Summer.

Perhaps ITV need to tap into this audience, unfortunately it probably wouldn't make them any money. So BBC1 has the advantage in this respect.

I figured this too. 1.2m at 9pm for OBEM which is usually one of the biggest raters is not too good and it probably got around a 4% share I would predict.

Worth noting that ITV's daytime numbers always take a hit in the school holidays whereas BBC1's doesn't (due to the different audiences they attract). They should go back up in September, but that doesn't excuse some of those appalling numbers. Also shows how important Jeremy Kyle, Tipping Point and The Chase are to them. It'd be a complete disaster zone without them.

Fantastic rating for the Commonwealth Games, almost 2million higher than expected. Should mean a nightly audience of 5million+ tuning in over the next 10 days, which should provide a fantastic promotional platform for the BBC's upcoming shows for late-summer and Autumn. Even though there wasnt much hype for the Games opener, it just proves that when the BBC does their cross-platform promotion, they can get people hooked in. Four years ago people really couldnt care less about the Commonwealth Games as the BBC didnt care. But now the BBC want the ratings, theyve plugged it really well and have made an illusion to the public that it's a very important thing.

How long before we can call it a ratings crisis? DS reports that in the 10PM hour all new sitcom The Mimic could only muster a 1.6% share of the audience.

Itv are basically screwed, aren't they? According to that article, they have to replace 110 hours of football which was averaging 4.4million viewers of which 2.7million were men. There is absolutely no way Itv will come close to averaging 4.4million in that Tuesday night slot over 110 hours of replacement programming, as we see almost every week, they tend to get audiences of about 2million in that slot. Getting male "brands" like Top Gear are much easier said than done, something like that comes along once every decade. Any immitation of Top Gear on Itv will instantly be ripped to shreds and labelled a rip off. I honestly feel that Bergg and Fincham have an incredibly difficult task ahead with replacing the football, and if you think Itv's ratings have been bad this year, just wait an see how much worse they become once the football's gone.

Further to the Holby City/Casualty debate. I think it is increasingly clear they are trying to bring the two shows closer together - whether for some kind of merger or simply scheduling integration.

After the comings and goings and crossovers recently this week Holby took pains to name check Charlie Fairhead (from Casualty) and next week a Casualty character who used to be in Holby is back in Holby.

There has been much more of this sort of thing occurring recently.

As I understood it (unless someone knows differently) they had always hoped to bring the two shows closer given they are supposed to be in the same hospital. But the filming of Holby in Elstree was the issue.

When Casualty moved to the big new set in Cardiff they had hoped to move Holby too as Elstree was planned to be sold. But they retained it for a few more years, though that was only meant to be up to next year I think.

Not sure if they are trying to revive the move to Cardiff for Holby and an effective merging of the shows, but closer integration is clearly real. There has been more in the past few weeks than in all of the past few years.

I think the fact One Born has lost its timeslot to BBC2 factual two weeks in a row, suggests it has lost some if it's ratings strength.

Tumble starts Saturday 9th August accroding to the new BBC Media Centre update for the week of 9th-15th August. BRIAN BLESSED is that weeks Who Do You Think you are and still no sign of The Village or New Tricks. BBC2 is dominated for most of that week by the European Athletics Championships

Funny that. It wasn't long ago that you were claiming that there hadn't been much promotion of the games.

Once again you make a complete under-prediction only to praise them in a totally OTT way when it inevitably rates higher. It wasn't a particularly impressive rating imo. No illusion has been created as around 20m less people tuned in compared to the Olympics. It is a home games. It's hardly surprising that there is some interest (more than a usual Commonwealth Games).

Maybe, however I was talking about ITV.
