You could be right there but the same could be said of BGT and XF.

I think that there's just too much of the genre now and it is being overkilled. In the past we had talent shows alongside other style of entertainment shows. Now it's just talent and nothing else. I think that's why SCD is consistent - it is possibly the only big pure entertainment format there is - and it is produced exceptionally well.

Has it? I hadn't noticed. I thought there were some jolly decent folk amicably chatting about a variety of things today. If you're referring to responses to samuel, that's old news and at least for now, done and dusted.

BBC Radio 3/4 can be regarded as BBC4 of radio.

I've only just clocked the Britain's Got More Talent rating. BB's rating certainly doesn't look as bad now.

Up to 7M viewers watching football in a slot where ITV has been averaging not much more than 1M clearly had an effect on not just BB, but everything.

Thanks a lot for those D.M.N.

The Saturday semi final timeshifted more than the semi finals normally do making the numbers look a bit less shabby. Wonder how the final will timeshift.

I remember the figures for last year were posted at the time somewhere, does anyone know where I could find them?

I thought that too. Very poor for More Talent. It normally does 1m+ after the final. Indeed, most of the episodes after the semi finals did better than that and the audition shows were getting three times that. Clearly the football, and to a lesser extent BB, dented it (and the fact the result wasn't particularly surprising or controversial I guess).

57% down on the BGMT finale last year.

There's hope for BB yet with the competition recording that kind of drop. I expected BGMT to beat BB to be honest, and both to be above 1M. I underestimated the football.

Ouch. Very surprised at how low BGMT was. +1 will add on another 0.1-0.2m but still. Last year ITV ran The Americans after BGT and this year it was the football which clearly knocked the stuffing out of BGMT. Not that they'll care much I suspect as it meant the main network had a monster night.

There is more to it than that:

Quote:
“On 26 February 2010 The Times reported that Mark Thompson, Director General of the BBC, proposed closing the station in a bid to scale back BBC operations and allow commercial rivals more room. The proposal of closure – along with BBC 6 Music – was later confirmed on 2 March. A letter was written to the BBC Trust and signed by various people – although the number of signatories also included a number signing their name at least more than once; as both a single name and as part of a collective, with many AN listeners advocating keeping their station at the expense of the more popular 6 Music, although the BBC Trust later rejected plans to close 6 Music and approved the plans to close AN. On 14 March 2011, the BBC announced it was reconsidering its plan to close the station in favour of reducing its budget in half, although it emphasised no final decision had been made.

In 2011, the BBC ruled there would be a 46% reduction in AN's budget and a declared target of 600,000 listeners a week; with actual audience numbers only reaching 507,000. In 2012, audience numbers fell even further; peaking at only 453,000. Even with the budget reductions, in 2013 AN still had the largest budget of the BBC's digital-only radio stations at £13m; despite having the lowest audience figures by far. ”

I think DS would have reported the +1 if it was higher than 0.1M.

It's a freak rating for BGMT that nobody could have seen coming - after all, BGMT has had a strong series ratings wise.

I just hope it wasn't the only freak rating last night.

Unfortunately DS are not consistent with their sub-100k rule. They did not report Big Brother's +1 audience on Thursday (115k).

Ouch. To be honest I'd forgotten it was on until I saw it in the EPG, after the race itself had finished.

I can honestly see it ending up back on the BBC before too long. It's bad for the sport. Must be affecting bookmaker turnover as well.

"Despite there being live sport across all four main terrestrial channels yesterday afternoon, Australia's win in the Derby was watched by a bigger peak audience than the French Open Ladies' final, the Challenge Cup rugby and the Formula 1 practice session."

Rugby League Challenge Cup: 782k (8.2%)
- Peak would have been probably ~1.1m range.

Time will tell, but I think the civvy BB will go if ratings go into nosedive. I always said Channel 4 were right to ditch BB, but should have kept CBB, as the ratings are a million higher. We'll know when BB is in real trouble when the Daily Star love in ends.
