Happy Valley?

I have Broadchurch on DVD - I recorded it myself! I've seen the entire series three times now. Another ITV drama I watch a lot is Christopher Ecclestone in The Second Coming. Does anyone remember that? It's awesome!

I hope not. I would like Bake Off to be treated with respect, otherwise they should have left it on BBC2.

The other option is probably Wednesday 8pm but new Midsomer Murders episodes using the Coronation Street lead in might strip away some of the older audience. Tuesday 8pm would be the best as that's where it's done brilliantly for BBC Two but...

Overnights.tv reveals the programme finished at 22:12 (or 22:10, for overnight tape-checking purposes).

They started it at dead on six o'clock, to the second. They really like this to start on time apparently, as witnessed today.

Cheers Neil!

I'm gonna predict a rating of 5 million. It's a hard rating to call as it could go either way.

Oh and re Bake Off, this is a plea to the BBC - do NOT put it on Saturdays and/or Sundays. A midweek day of either Tuesday or Wednesday is perfect for it. It would really flourish midweek and shouldn't be used to hurt other programmes. Plus I want a rating of 10m for it on BBC 1

Happy Valley was excellent but it didn't hit Broadchurch levels of 8/9m. The Broadchurch finale felt like a real event.

The Second Coming is excellent. One of the best things Russell T Davies has ever done.

As a slight correction it got 9-10m people speculating and watching not the nation.

Goodness what a busy thread today. Gosh what happened on the previous page, that was out of the blue a bit.

I hope BBC keep GBBO on Tuesday or Wednesday. If it goes on Sunday opposite XF it could dent it severely and create some negatives headlines from the media for the BBC. Its fine during the week.

The Derby was second fiddle to The Grand National even then but still felt like a big deal. Was also a weekday race. Got very good ratings on ITV back then.

The horse racing organisers went for more money on Channel 4 and have changed the scheduling of some meetings. It just feels like some race meetings have fallen off the general public's radar since they switched channels.

Yes, by putting GBBO on against XF on Sundays will just dent XF and GBBO. What would be the point of that?

Bake off is bound to get greater opposition wherever its put but will be very suprised if they put it on at weekends.

Neither did The Olympics. 24m watched but 60m live in Great Britain so the majority didn't care. But it's all relative.

24m TV sets. I doubt only one person was watching each.

24m viewers not TV sets. BARB ratings are based on numbers of individuals. So you can't say the nation was hooked. If we are using the criteria of not everybody watched.

I think Wednesdays at 20:00 for Bake Off would be best on balance. Tuesdays are already strong for BBC One and this would shore up a relatively weak night. As Fudd suggests the audience could probably be maximised on Tuesdays but it's not worth disrupting a slightly wobbly Holby. Midsomer Murders on Wednesdays would be stronger competition than the cack served up on Tuesdays but there have only been 1-4 episodes of it in the autumn in recent years, and only one last autumn (on Christmas Eve).

Where have you got that figure from? There must be more than 24m tv sets surely.

Take Me Out against Strictly isn't actually itv giving up though. In 2012 it often had more 16-34's watching than Strictly. Even on its low total numbers, it was still delivering over 1m of them.

It will give Strictly some free reign - Strictly thrives on those older viewers and Take Me Out really doesn't appeal to them at all so it makes life easy for BBC1. But outside this thread, it's not all about denting and beating, certainly not for itv who have to actually make some money. TMO does a job for them and that's why they might be going with that instead of Celebrity Chase.

Bake Off will face more competition on Wednesday nights than Tuesdays. No Champions League matches or weak factual filler. Not sure ratings will match its highest ever BBC2 numbers facing Midsomer Murders.

I think more people have missed their medication.

welshfoxy was saying 24m TV sets 'viewed' the Olympics. cylon6 corrected this, as it was 24m+ people (I assume we're talking about the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, which averaged 24.46m and 24.24m officially).

There were 2.03 TV sets per UK household in 2003 (approx. 51.6m sets), declining to 1.83 in 2012 (approx 49.6m sets). Interesting that it went down.

Sarah Phelps's adaptation of Great Expectations is one of my favourite versions. She hasn't done much new apart from EastEnders but the BBC went to her with some high profile projects. Must think a lot of her.....which makes The Crimson Field decision baffling.

I think The Crimson Field would sell, most programmes sell to other countries.

I have taken all my medication thank you - otherwise I cant even turn my computer on.

I thought I had seen a figure around 2 tv sets per household and actually think that seems low.

On the other hand, Bake Off wouldn't be facing Holby as it did on Tuesdays and presumably BBC Two would soft-pedal against it (or show something male-skewing). I think in the event of a clash with Midsomer Murders, the drama would get recorded a lot more due to its two-hour length and the greater attraction of Bake Off. And even in the officials, it would be far from its potential performance in a kinder slot. Fewer adverts watched, less money for ITV. It's likely therefore that ITV would seek to keep Midsomer away from Bake Off (and as I mentioned, autumn Midsomers have been fairly scarce lately anyway).
