Not quite that bad but certainly some of these may be a long time before we see them.

The BBC said a while ago they were committed to a number of long-term projects with Becks.

It doesn't close for another 15 months (if it happens at all - the Trust might demur), so it won't have freed up any cash yet.

I read that as

Costume dramas are starting to get boring now. You only need one costume drama. I'd rather the money were spent on keeping BBC Three on as a linear TV channel beyond September 2015, even though I don't watch it.

Off topic, but according to Broadcast, Princess Productions have snatched the rights to produce the lottery quiz shows from Endemol.

It absolutely died on its arse, especially the eviction interviews which were of absolutely no interest to the general audience (especially in the first week, half an hour devoted to someone who had appeared on TV for less than an hour). By the end of the run, it was just twice a week with the main show on Mondays at 9pm and the eviction interview on Tuesdays at 10.30 - but they still did a two hour live final to very little effect.

The second series in 2002, with Mark Nicholas, was down to just one night a week with the main show on Wednesdays at 9.45 (after the Champions League to give it a lead-in, but they even kept it there when there wasn't football) and then, after the news, the eviction interview the same night at 11.05. But nobody was interested.

The problem with Survivor was that it was all pre-recorded and on film so it felt like it didn't matter, and was also boring as hell.”

Thanks as ever Steve for your informative and interesting posts. I knew Survivor had aired in a weekly Wednesday slot at some point, but I completely forgot about the scheduling for the first series.

I think it's worth ITV giving it a shot again maybe next summer, put some effort in and make it an event, make it live rather than pre recorded and make it fun with a big budget.

Exactly and I definately dont get how anyone can say there should only be one costume drama.

PEDANT ALERT: Endemol make the draws themselves, the quizzes are made by a number of producers including 12 Yard (In It To Win It, Who Dares Wins) and Thames (Break The Safe). We presumably won't see much difference to the shows given they've just moved into a purpose built studio at Pinewood.

But surely if you make it fun and live, it's I'm A Celebrity?

This is all I can find coming up on BBC One:

Not Going Out (10 episodes)
Citizen Khan (number unknown, probably 6 or 7)
Grey Mates (6)
Still Open All Hours (6)
Big School (6)
Woody (6)
Car Share (6)
Mrs Brown's Boys Xmas (2)

They could make it more serious than fun I guess, focusing more on the survival element like The Island with Bear Grylls and it would feature ordinary people, instead of celebrities. It would be a twist on I'm A Celebrity - just a suggestion really for ITV to fill up their schedule in the summer months to bridge the gap between the end of Britain's Got Talent and The X Factor starting up again.

Is Pompidou still happening, Matt Lucas' silent comedy?

While the lack of comedy is slightly worrying, you can see why they're put off. So many fail without being given a chance, and as much as people like to say viewers are "crying out for comedy" that only seems to be the case when old favourites are brought back.

Anyway, for me, the best comedy comes from drama. Funniest programme on last year - Last Tango in Halifax.

And some comedy dramas coming to BBC One:

- Boy in the Dress (to air Christmas 2014)
- Mapp and Lucia (filming this summer)
- Stan and Ollie (in development)

Also Pompidou, the Matt Lucas 'visual comedy series', with no dialogue.

EDIT: Great minds. It appears still to be happening, guestofseth. Late 2014/early 2015, says comedy.co.uk.

Compared to ITV

Vicious
Birds of a Feather
Benidorm

Both ITV and the BBC need to push for more comedy, ITV particularly.

I think ITV should bring back Barbara - the original was very funny.

Any of those getting Xmas Specials this year? Mrs Brown's Boys is the only BBC One Xmas sitcom I know of for this year.

You would have thought BOAF was perfect for ITV at Xmas but they recommissioned it for 8 parts with no talk of a special.

I suppose they could show a non-festive episode at Xmas, if the series is ready in time. Then again, some of the original Christmas specials weren't very good because some were dragged out to 50/60/75 minutes.

Is there any news on a fourth series of Miranda or Mrs Brown's Boys?

Car Share is a top quality sitcom with one of Britains favourite comedians in the all star cast. It is not being burned off or delayed because it's poor. It is apparently so good that the BBC and the production company are perfecting it in the editing suite before its much anticipated launch in the Autumn. Sometimes you must wait for the best things - Sherlock took 2-3 years in the making for instance. Car share is fantastic according to an informant and will be a hit with non-DS viewers.

So do you know when it was filmed?

Is there anything at all worth watching that week or is it just as barren as next week.
