That's because some of the BARB updates have not happened in all of the places that they should. Logs sent but not all updated.

Well, as Samuel says - he follows BARB and they don't incorporate +1's in their charts and if it's not been amended this must mean that the fireworks didn't top the year after all. It was BGT. ”

It was amended but not updated in both places on BARB.

Wrong year, you've entered 2013 not 2014!

He is having an absolute nightmare. It's a 2nd night of the commentators being more talk than the game (and certainly not in a good way) Pearce has had an absolute nightmare. Created a controversy that didn't exist and then awarded France a 3rd goal when it was clearly wide.

Worrying when ITV's comms have been of a higher standard so far

burbe - Ah, thank goodness for that. Thought I'd re-opened a right can of worms there.

Sorry for the boob.

Jonathan Pearce is being crucified on social media. Hes having a terrible time of it tonight, he called it 3-0 when he thought France scored even though the ball hit the side netting. BBC need to get rid, cant associate themselves with him anymore.

OMG. Criticising the BBC. I thought I would never see the day.

Bit harsh, he has been utterly terrible but every commentator, analyst etc has a bad one. If it was a regular consistent thing (Hansen, Lawrenson, Keown etc) then you'd get rid

But BBC certainly not having a good WC commentary wise so far

He's great. Him and Phil would be the dream team for the final.

Yes I heard that.

However he has always been worth a listen Jonathan Pearce-he has a good voice for commentary and the gaffes kind of make it more interesting.

Iv never known why Radio 5 Live's Mike Ingham never made the move to tv. Great voice and knowledge, and for me was the natural successor to John Motson.

Just to clarify, when I said get rid, I dont mean sack him but to cut down the rest of his commentaries for this tournament so he's on fewer games than initially planned. This is not good enough from Pearce, there is an expectation of high quality BBC sports coverage, and he's not living up to the billing. The bbc cannot accept such sub-optimal commentary like how some other tv channels may allow. There needs to be repurcussions from this, it's not like he's inexperienced like Phil Neville either which would be understandable.

Just read that Jonathan Pearce has been ill the last few months. Hes not commentated as much over the last few months. So a bit understandable now why he's been shaky tonight.

This tweet did make me laugh though:

Beesotted Brentford ‏@Beesotted 5m
The commentary by BBC's Jonathan Pearce has been so erratic and inaccurate that we just presumed we were watching ITV

He also posted something to do with BBC broadcasts for opening England Matches traditionally ending in a win.

Don't worry. Come Thursday evening we'll be seeing England crash out of the World Cup exclusively live on ITV. Or the following Wednesday.

Former X Factor contestant Ella Henderson (2012 series) has scored her first No1 single with 'Ghost', 4th fastest selling single this year.

I know this is not ratings related, but it does prove that The Voice has little impact in the music industry, if at all. It might rate well!? but it doesn't generate the same involvement from the audience as The X Factor does.

Btw Great consolidated rating for the BGT final - I've no idea how it compares to previous years, but a nice 12m figure.

Until The Voice creates a star it will not be seen as a success in many people's eyes.

You are quite correct, it's not ratings related.

Neither is this.

It s a ratings success of course (an expensive one) but since the format hinders success from the contestants, it will never produce a true star to make impact in the charts. It is simply entertainment now.

And that works against it. It will always be used as a stick to beat The Voice with. The irony is that the US version is a massive hit and hasn't created a star.

ITV did share the Wimbledon finals in the mid sixties, but as it was seen as a BBC event, they never bothered again. Same as they abandoned the Olympics in 1988 as very few people would watch their coverage.
ITV would know if they ever bid for something like Wimbledon, their core audience would start whining about it interfering with the two soaps.

Tomorrow's night 8PM match will probably be the lowest rating 8pm match of the entire world cup as I cant see Iran vs Nigeria pulling in many casual viewers at all.

Would still be pay day for ITV either way. I think ITV will make this Thursday their modern equivalent of the Coronation, it will give them the rating of the year should England go out and pay for some of the better things.

Itv dont reinvest the profits they make into programming. The money goes to the shareholders. Their profits have quadrupled in the last 5 years but the programme budget has stayed the same as 5 years ago, which is evidence that the money they make from high rating shows like World Cup is not actually being reinvested into the schedules proportionally, if at all.
