I asked on here back in 2009 when I got my first Blackberry if I needed to instal a firewall and an anti virus and was advised I didn't need any because mobile phones are hard to infect these days and that Blackberries are secure.

After that warning on the News last night about a worldwide virus being about to affect everyones computers, I wondered if the situation regarding Blackberries has changed. I have free Avast anti virus on my computer and Comodo fre firewall but I have nothing on my mobile phone.

I have a Q10 - and yes, I know I'm probably the only person in the country still using BB, but I like a qwerty keyboard so I've stayed with BB. So, is it safe?

I have had a look in the settings for my Q10 and I can't see a firewall that I can enable. There doesn't seem to be anything in settings.
I've tried looking on the Vodafone website and can't see any info regarding this.
I could phone their helpline but I find their advice to be hit and miss.

Are there any DS'ers who can advise me?
Thanks in advance.

Hi.
I don't really know if we need Anti-Virus.
I downloaded "Secure Anti-Virus Pro " from Blackberry World onto my Blackberry Z10.
For the price of £2.00 it's worth giving it a try.
Colin.

The one thing you'll notice with people who create and spread viruses and malware is they like to try and target the biggest platforms with the highest number of users - Windows on PCs usually, and Android on mobile. For Phishing scams, they try to entice you in by using the biggest company names to fool you.

The likelihood of someone bothering to create a piece of malware for BlackBerry, especially the new BlackBerry 10 platform which has had a very low take-up, is very low indeed.
