Should characters be killed off after 2nd stints
Im talking about the actors who leave the show first time round who ask for their characters to stay alive for a possible return in the future.
What I want to know is whether when they do return and say 2 years into their 2nd stint they ask to leave. Should their characters be killed off to stop them from using soaps for the periods when they cant get any jobs. |

I don't think they should kill off a character just because the actor or actress returns and decides to leave again but it also depends on their 2nd stint as 2nd stints are sometimes only intended to be short stints.

I really think threads like this are a bit stupid and more than a little entitled. Characters shouldn't have to be killed off just because people are mad that the actor is 'using' the soap.
Obviously the soap producers are happy to have them back if they give them a return at all. |

No...that's a terrible idea. Think about how many great characters would have been killed off by now - Sharon Watts, Janine Butcher, David Wicks, Grant Mitchell, Ricky Butcher, Carol Jackson...and that's just scratching the surface with just EastEnders...
Unless the death is necessary and advances the story, it can only benefit a show to have such a huge backlog of characters to call upon when the opportunity arises. |

Nope. Being in a soap should not be a prison sentence.

To be honest, what if they leave once because they fancied a change and then twice because of a situation out of their control like a baby or an illness that got better later on? Not their fault really.

Definitely not. Sometimes it can add realism to have people come and go. And I'd hate it to look at a returning character and know their final exit would be in a coffin.
I know it's frustrating when popular characters leave - I'm gutted at the loss of David Wicks in Eastenders this week and the recent departure of Charlie Brooks - but if they ever wanted to return I'd personally want them back. |
