Where was he? Was he sleeping with someone else?

Somebody on the episode thread suggested he might have been meeting up with Ben. I think that's a good theory.

I'd be disappointed if it was just another 'he was sleeping with someone else' story. Unless it was Max, because that would be freaking hilarious.

It would explain why he didn't want Phil to know where he really was

If he is meeting up with Ben. I called it first and will dig through my posts to prove it.

He was at the bookies putting a bet on Who Killed Lucy.

Ben makes sense but he could tell the police without Phil finding out?

Or is it linked to the Nick/Charlie Cotton story somehow?

I can't think of any other sensible story, even if he was sleeping with someone, I can't think of who?

Ben does make sense although it is slightly puzzling as to why he wouldn't tell the Police. Unless Ben came to the Square and isn't supposed to as a condition of his Parole and Ian didn't want to get him thrown back into Prison?

Maybe because if he had told the police then he would have had to have proven it, but it would probably be easier to say he was at Beale's

It won't be Ben ...that's not twisty enough....

I know it sounds crazy but I think that he was having a tryst with Jane and because it'd be awkward to explain to his family he lied about being in the restaurant all night. The theory of him meeting Ben is a brilliant one though as well that'd be interesting, can't wait to find out

I'm surprised no one has come up with the theory that he was with Kathy, now back in the UK after faking her death in South Africa over huge debts run up by her husband.

Ben with a Turkey Twizzler?

It's Ben. He lied because Ben didn't want anyone knowing.
DTC is using this to truck is and believe that Ben has something to do with it. He's using it as a diversion and I'm centrism that he's going to reveal a major clue about Lucy's death but will use bens reappearence and Ian's involvement as a distraction

I think he was on the phone to Ben. If he just met up with Jane that would be boring.

The fact that this storyline is going to carry on until February means that it will have endless twists and surprises, which will have to be more and more convoluted and unrealistic. I can't help thinking that it will all come back to revealing that the killer is either Ian or Peter, purely because it would be so unrealistic.

If Ian killed her Adam Woodyatt would have to leave the show as his character would most likely go to prison. I can't imagine DTC writing Ian out or AW leaving. It could be Peter however...

I don't k now if they take any notice of actors wishes but Adam Woodyatt has said that if it turns out to be him he'll be having very strong words with DTC. I suspect he'd leave (even if the plot didn't dictate he had to anyway) as he seems to think it would be totally out of character - and I agree with him. I really don't see how it could end up being Ian and him remain in the show and I don't think they'd willingly write him out.
