I can't imagine what Hilda's done to get a ban. Hopefully, it's a short temporary one.
Oh, that is bad news, he is such an asset to this Forum, hopefully it won't be for long, I don't think that I could manage it without him.

I was banned for a day last week after I got a bit mouthy in the Strictly Forum.

In complete contrast, this Movie thread is so tranquil.
Thank you for your kind words and thoughts gentlemen but thankfully it was just a 24 hour ban for something rather minor!

Walter and fellow golden era fans I thought you might appreciate /be interested in this article about how a perfume fragrance line that is being launched next year has a direct line and connection back to Barbara Stanwyck who shared the scent with the late Hollywood starlet Natalie Wood.

The perfume is being released by one of Natalie Woods daughters -not sure if it's the daughter she had with Robert Wagner?

Thank you very much!

Oh BTW regarding Laura Dern who was influenced by Barbara's acting am I right in thinking she won an oscar at one point for a David Lynch film?

Would be a great testament to her idol in a roundabout way!

I knew that Barbara's favourite perfume was Jungle Gardenia, and she was always close to Natalie after they worked together when Natalie was just 8 years old.

Natasha was Natalie's youngest daughter from her second marriage to Robert Wagner.

Incidentally, Natalie was NEVER a starlet, she was a child star, and most definitely a fully fledged star after working with James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause.

Laura was Nominated for an Acadamy Award twice, for Rambling Rose, and Wild, but like her idol, she didn't win.

Looking at her filmography I'd forgotten she had a starring role in 'Miracle on 34th Street', playing the daughter of Maureen O'Hara who we lost recently. That movie is on Sky Movies Christmas tomorrow night.

oops sorry I was using starlet as both a femmine/elegnant version of star and as an alternative to actress-I hadnt appreciated that it had a specific and "lesser" meaning! Its nice that the link to Barbara is very much alive in a sense with this perfume and Im pleased that Natasha decided to reference her.

Did her mother Diane Ladd win an oscar in a film with Jack Nicholson?

She was Nominated three times, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore - 1975, Wild at Heart - 1991, and Rambling Rose - 1992, but no win's, and Jack Nicholson wasn't in any of them.

Not surprising that Laura Dern is such a big fan of Barbara, her Mother Diane Ladd was actually pregnant with Laura when she appeared in Barbara's The Big Valley. It was shown on TV in January, and Laura was born in February. I will have to take a look at that episode, "Boy Into Man" and see if it shows.

Between 1966 and '68, her Dad, Bruce Dern appeared in FIVE episodes of The Big Valley.

That explains it,what an interesting feat of hollywood history/titbits that Diane Ladd was pregnant with Laura Dern while working with Barbara Stanwyck-Perhaps Laura was absorbing all of Barbaras good acting vibes and understated talent while she was inside her mother! They do say the mothers environment can effect the unborn child to some degree!

For some reason I thought Diane Ladd starred in or was somehow conected to the 1975 film " ONe Flew over the cuckoos nest" which of course starred Jack Nicholson.I was clearly confused!

Oh BTW Apparently Mother,Father and Daughter acting family Bruce Dern,Diane Ladd and Laura Dern all have stars on the Hollywood walk of fame right next to each other, very unusually as such a courtesy has not been extended to other hollywood acting clans in this way!

I was not pleased to find that Barbara's star was stuck up in Hollywood and Vine, she certainly deserved to be on the main thoroughfare in Hollywood Boulevard.

She also deserved a second star for her TV work, especially as she won THREE Best Actress Emmy's, for The Barbara Stanwyck Show - 1961, The Big Valley - 1967, and The Thorn Birds - 1983.

At least she has her signature, feet and handprints immortalized in cement in the forcourt of Grauman's Chines Theatre.

Some stars like Mickey Rooney have up to four stars dedicated to the different parts of the industry where they worked.

Hope to see you back on here soon Walter -your invaluable.

I agree from what you describe it seems unfair that Barbara Stanwyck like Mickey Rooney deserved more stars on the Hollywood walk of fame.

I'm wondering if this too was a side effect of Barbara being independent and not signingas a contract player to a particular studio that seemed to stymie Barbara's chances of winning an oscar?
Perhaps another example of what happens in the local politics of tinseltown when you don't play the game to the tune of the powers that be behind the scenes?

The world's oldest living Oscar Winner -Film editor of Gary Cooper classic High Noon -Elmo Williams has died aged 102 now leaving 99 year old Olivia De Havilland as the oldest living Oscar winner.

Another link to the golden era of Hollywood gone but a grand age 102.

BBCs Radio 2 to present a two part series on Frank Sinatra next month when he would have turned 100 and will be presented by Hollywood legend Angie Dickinson with help from golden era stalwarts Shirley Maclaine, Debbie Reynolds and Kim Novak

Thanks Dan, it was a week's ban this time, for mouthing of in the Strictly Come Dancing thread, I get very carried away when sticking up for Jay McGuinness, although I am sure that he can fight his own battles.

I guess that I had better stay in this warm and tranquil thread, I will probably be banned for life next time!

Thanks very much, I am back again after a weeks enforced rest.

Hollywood is, and always be very political, and if you don't play their game, then they will always get back at you in some way or another.

I am sure that Barbara's career did suffer because she refused to sign long term contract, and probably why she isn't remembered as well as Bette and Joan.

Welcome back Walter you've been much missed!
Praise the Lord it wasn't longer than a week!
Please try and stay out of trouble as this forum would be much the poorer without you! 👍

I've started a thread recently on who's the sexiest Male dancer on Strictly but please don't go over to look and post if you think you'll get into strictly style trouble!

In terms of Hollywood and politics -Would you say most of the movie moguls /studio bosses from Hollywoods golden era were republican or Democrats?

Also I've always wondered why staunch JFK supporter Frank Sinatra switched to the republican party under Ronald Reagan. A political conversion or a switch for personal reasons like we're he feels flattered the most??
