Well, as someone who started going to the cinema in the early 1940's, these are my top ten.

1. The Lady Eve - Screwball comedy starring Barbara Stanwyck and Henry Fonda.

2. All About Eve - Witty satire which probably contains Bette Davis best performance.

3. Now Voyager - Terrific 40's weepie with Bette Davis and Claude Rains.

4. The Other Love - Classic '40's weepie about a consumptive Concert Pianist, with Barbara Stanwyck and David Niven..

5. Witness for the Prosecution - My favourite court room drama based on Agatha
Christie's play with Charles Laughton and Dietrich.

6. Auntie Mame - Hilarious 1958 comedy starring Rosalind Russell

7. Road House - Gripping 1948 drama with Ida Lupino and Richard Widmark.

8. Sweet Bird of Youth - Great 1961 drama adapted from Tennesee William's play with
Paul Newman and Geraldine Page.

9. This Happy Breed - My favourite British film from 1944 adapted from the Noel
Coward play about a South London family between the Wars.

10. Stage Fright - My favourite Hitchcock, starring Marlene Dietrich and Richard Todd.

Everyone of these films is available on DVD. There are so many more but these are the films that immediately came to mind.
Have you seen The Talk of the Town With Cary Grant, Jean Arthur and Ronald Coleman along with Holiday with Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn and People will Talk with Cary Grant, Jeanne Crain and Walter Slezak these are three of my favourite Cary Grant movies and pretty damn good ones too.

Good luck tomorrow Walter/Ray everything crossed for you x

Film4 are showing Rio Grande a John Wayne western with Maureen O Hara tommorow afternoon, and The Lady from Shanghai with Orson Welles and Rita Hayworth after it, are they worth watching?

I find Film4 show a lot of the older films in the morning, it is one of the best channels to catch some great movies, it was thanks to them I started watching Gene Tierney's film as I caught a few on there are really loved them
Sorry that I wasn't able to reply, but as you may have seen, I smashed their record.

Everyone was lovely, and I had my photo taken with Ben, Katie, Shaun, and Alex the Weatherman. I also met Peter Phillips, the Queen's grandson in the Green Room. I was tempted to ask hum whether Granny was watching.

I love Gene Tierney too, my favourite of all of her films is of course Laura.

I have seen them all, but don't care for The Talk of the Town as I am not a fan of Ronald Colman or Jean Arthur.

WOW, I hadn't seen that, glad that you were able to see it.

I still haven't come down to earth yet, especially after seeing all of my friends in the gym cheering me on, I really got choked up, it was such a surprise.

Me too! What a special era it was! Are you a fan of any of the few remaining female big stars still with us like Olivia De Havilland, Doris Day, Angela Lansbury and Shirley Maclaine?
I adore Angela Lansbury. Quite a big fan actually of Ms Lansbury. Especially her theatre work. and I do like Doris Day.

Haven't seen a lot of Olivia to be honest, apart from Gone With The Wind.

Not keen on Shirley at all. I have seen her in tons of films and I have never been impressed with any of her performances. I just do not emotionally connect with her.

Angela still seems to be in fine fettle at 90-wouldnt be surprised if she lives to see one hundred! Did you know her grandfather I think George Lansbury was one of the founders of the UK Labour party?

If you ever get the chance watch Olivia in the Oscar winning film "The Heiress". 👍

Have you come back down to earth yet Walter?

Congratulations on breaking the record I'm truly delighted for you -you really a phenomenon and deserve all the goodwill now being heaped on you.
You lucky devil meeting Peter Philips he's quite dapper and handsome and dare I say has movie star looks!

You never know it may be an audience with her majesty next!

Thanks very much, I am still floating on a happy cloud, and now you know what I look like, please call me Ray.

If you are on Facebook, you can see all the photo's that I had taken with everyone.

I had a lovely message from Ollie the producer who arranged that lovely surprise with my friends in the gym. He is going to phone me this week and says that he has some more photo's for me.

I am hoping that they will show me top of the leaderboard tomorrow morning.

Peter Phillps seems to be a very nice guy, but he reminds me of his gormless father Mark, who was so wet that Prince Charles always called him Fog.

I prefer Ben Sheppard who is an incredibly youthful 40, and Alex, the very elegant Weatherman. Sean Fletcher the Sports reporter is also lovely, he sent me a video of us chatting together, which you can also see on my Facebook page.

Truly delighted for you! Did you meet the sexy Welsh presenter Matt Johnson?

Do you think you'll be asked back again?

It must have been surreal but amazing to meet royalty even if he wasn't Einstein! 😁

On a more disappointing note there was no Oscar Nomination for Maggie Smith. 😞

I do hope they make a better effort with the memorial section this year in the ceremony.

I had to Google Matt Johnson to see who he was, I have seen him before, but don't recall seeing him on Good Morning Britain.

My friends think that I will be asked back again, especially if nobody beats my record.

Ironically, I beat my own TV record when I completed a six minute Plank in the gym at 7.15 this morning.

My local newspaper phoned me today to say they are giving me a spread in Thursday's Faversham Times.

I doubt if Maggie cares about the Oscars, although she certainly deserved a Nomination.

The Memorial Section has been crap for years, and they usually get some caterwauling "singer" to ruin the mood. They also always leave a favourite name off their tribute. I still haven't forgiven them for snubbing D Day hero, and Oscar Nominee, Richard Todd.

26 years to the day since Barbara Stanwyck died

A blessing though that so many of us are in a position to remember, celebrate and discover her anew.

And going by your fitness levels Ray /Walter you'll still be here rembering Barbara on the 50th anniversary of her passing!

I'm sure your friends are right that the Good Morning Britain studio's haven't seen the last of you and your record beating ways! 😁

PS I will Google your local paper once the spread appears -congratulations 👍

Thanks so much for remembering the 26th anniversary of Barbara's death, you beat me to it.

Thankfully, as you say, her life and career is still being celebrated and re-evaluated.

As for my appearance on TV, the reaction from my friends has been incredibly heartwarming, and I feel extremely fortunate. If you have seen the messages on my Facebook page you will know what I mean.

I do believe that you get out of life what you put into it, and all the good things that have come my way have usually been through my own endeavours. I also think that you can do almost anything if you really want it enough.

Completely agree. Also, are you going to run the London Marathon again this year? Sorry for going off topic.

No problem going off topic occasionally Dan, and thanks for asking.

No, I didn't get into the London Marathon this year, so I am taking a break from running until the next official 10K run next month.

Meanwhile, I am concentrating on cardio work in the gym at the moment, and really trying to improve my Planking, just in case I get the call again.

Your very welcome! It would have been a travesty if Barbara's anniversary anniversary of her passing wasn't noted on this thread of all places!

It's been a very emotionally adventurous but satisfying week for you.
And yes I've always concured with the saying that God helps those who help themselves -I think most of the time there's a lot of truth in it.

The anniversary of Barbara's passing just makes me more keen for her biographer to hurry and get on with chronicling her life in the next volume of her books!

Are any of Barbara's big films due any big anniversaries of their releases coming up that may lead to special edition or rereleasing of some films on DVD etc?

Probably not strictly speaking a significant Hollywood actress but certainly a noteworthy figure from the world of cinema and film.

Aw, that is sad, another part of my childhood gone, I got the young Richard and Sheila's autographs at the 1948 Film Garden Party, he was 25, and she was 26.

This year is the 70th Anniversary of The Strange Love of Martha Ivers, and I have two official DVD's of that. I have been extremely lucky with special editions and boxed sets of Barbara, because very few on the stars of the Golden Age have been given so much attention.

Around 15 years ago a series was released called Screen Goddesses, beautifully presented in a presentation box, the box contained three trays with two films in each tray. Each film is digitally remastered, and they are all Classics, The Miracle Woman, The Bitter Tea of General Yen, Golden Boy, The Lady Eve, Double Indemnity, and All I Desire. This fabulous collection is still available from Amazon for only £15.79.

Then another terrific boxed set is, "Barbara Stanwyck - The Signature Collection"
This has five great films, My Reputation (the first film that I ever saw her in, and one of her best) East Side, West Side, To Please a Lady, Jeopardy, Executive Suite, and one stinker, Annie Oakley. This is also available on Amazon.

Another great set is "The Barbara Stanwyck Collection" Another five great films, The Great Man's Lady, The Bride Wore Boots, The Lady Gambles, All I Desire, There's Always Tomorrow, and one stinker, Internes Can't Take Money.

I have two boxed sets of "The Barbara Stanwyck Show" this was her first TV series from 1960 which was never shown over here, so I was thrilled to get hold of that rare set which won Barbara her first Emmy.

Another two boxed sets were released on her popular Western series, The Big Valley which ran from 1965 to 1969, and she won her second Emmy for this

Then there is the Special Edition of The Thorn Birds, for which she won her third Emmy

I also have Special Editons of Meet John Doe, The Lady Eve, Double Indemnity, Titanic, and The Furies, which also includes the paperback of the original novel.

I also have official DVD's of Remember the Night, Ball of Fire, Christmas in Connecticut, The Other Love, Sorry, Wrong Number, The File on Thelma Jordon, Clash By Night, The Violent Men, and Walk on the Wild Side.

So as you can see, I have been very fortunate indeed.

Talking Pictures TV channel is showing The Plough And The Stars from 1936 starring Barbara Stanwyck. It's on in a few minutes at 11.45. I'm going to record it.
