She used to infuriate me sometimes, because she was just too modest. She once said, "Career is too pompous a word, to me it is a job that I love, and I feel privileged to be paid for a job that I love doing." Unlike Bette Davis, she would never go on a chat show to promote herself, saying, "Attention embarrasses me, I don't like to be on display." She only made an exception on two occasions, when she appeared on The Merv Griffin and Joey Bishops shows to be presented with Photoplay's Gold Medal as TV's favourite actress for 1967 and 68. Unfortunately they aren't available, but I do have then on audio tape.
