Never realised Olivia was born the very same day as the battle of the Somme began.

A day for sad reflection but also a day for celebration of a wonderful career during the golden years of Hollywood.

Congratulation to Olivia de Havilland, 100 YEARS OLD TODAY!
Just saw that. Can't be many other celebs still around who are as old as her (or indeed celebs who get anywhere near their century )

Fingers crossed for Kirk Douglas, who turns 100 in December.

Happy 100th Birthday to Olivia. Hope she's having a lovely day.
Anybody know what kind of "condition" she's in these days? I'd love to think she's of a sound enough mind and body to enjoy her day, as opposed to being in a nursing home or whatever..

This seems to be her latest interview. She seems to be still in good health.

Bit surprised she's never got an honour, both her parents were British so isn't she a UK citizen?

Don't think she's ever lived here. She became a US citizen in 1941 and presumably a French citizen when she married a Frenchman and moved to Paris 60 years ago. The American and French Governments have honoured her.

A death not mentioned yet: Janet Waldo (1920-2016), US actress who voiced many Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters including Judy Jetson in The Jetsons (1962-1963, 1985-1987) and Penelope Pitstop in Wacky Races (1968-1969), died on 12 June; she was 96.

She appeared (usually uncredited) in loads of 1930s & 1940s movies - a lot of B westerns but also Zaza (1938), The Star Maker (1939) and Waterloo Bridge (1940).

What a great photo, and one that I have never seen before.

Glad to say that the lovely Ann Blyth is still with us, she will be 88 in August.

I always liked her, she was part of my childhood and teenage years. A very classy lady who has never had a bad word to say about Joan Crawford. She had her best role opposite Joan when she played her nasty daughter Veda, in Mildred Pierce.

Ann had a fabulous singing voice, as she proved in The Great Caruso, The Student Prince, and Kismet, yet oddly enough she was not included in any of the three That's Entertainment films.
Great picture. There seems to be a bit of a debate as to who's facing Elizabeth Taylor. Some think Burton others think Peter Lawford. Although, probably not Burton if it's the early 50s. Anyway, I believe it's Olivia de Havilland's 100th birthday tomorrow. Hope she has a great day.
Thanks both of you! There's a few great little twitter accounts ran by dedicated fans of Hollywood's golden era and they really do at times come up with some splendid photos!
I agree going by the timeframe it's not going to be Richard Burton.

Ann Blyth is one actress from this era who I wish did more interviews! I feel like I don't know enough about her and have a full sense of her! The fact that someone who played Joan Crawfords daughter is nearly 88 makes some of us start to feel old!!

Many Thanks for posting I hadn't come across this sad news.

Penalise Pitstop is a cartoon I remember fondly!

It certainly makes some of us feel old, but surely not you Hilda, I have shirts in my wardrobe older than you!
Wait till you get to be six years older than Joan Crawford, now THAT is old!

You can see a wonderful interview with Ann at Castro's famous cinema in San Francisco, just click on this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wd7m0TztdAA

Wow Walter Ann Blyth looks and sounds fantastic in that video! How old is she there is it recent? She seems very down to earth, starry but doesn't take herself too seriously or with self importance. Thanks for posting!

I liked that little picture of Lauren Bacall in her prime onset but off duty I think!

PS Didn't Olivia seem in good health? 101 is more than a possibility and the flame of old Hollywood kept alive!

And yes I am much younger than you but starting to feel the effects of time! I bet some of your shirts are in better nick than me! 😁

That was filmed in 2006, so she was 77/78, and yes, she looked stunning, and seems such a lovely, genuine lady.

I think that like Olivia, she is in good health, and just hope she has many years ahead.

If you are feeling the effects of time at your age, then you really need to start taking care of yourself. I started late in life, 64 to be exact, but there seems to be no limit to what I can put my body through. I am now getting to the gym at 6.30 am, and having over two hour work out's at least four mornings a week. My gym manager calls me Bionic Ray, and says that he is putting me through routines that a 30 year old would be proud to complete. Tomorrow morning I am taking part in the Herne Bay 10K, and have more of those lined up for the next six months. So I would suggest that you join a gym, you won't regret it when you see the results, although it might take some time.

Olivia looked great for her age in all the recent interviews and pictures posted. I think I'm going to stick to walking my dog for all my exercise needs.

Walter - How did you get on with the Herne Bay 10K? Are you sitting in an ice bath this morning?

Hi David, I did OK, 1 hour 15 minutes, not my best, but not my worst either. There were quite a few behind me, and I was the oldest out of more than 500 runners.

I never have, and never will sit in an ice bath, I like a hot bubble bath up to my neck, I sit and soak for at least 30 minutes, and it seems to do the trick. I was back in the gym at 6.30 this morning, and went on the Cross Trainer for an hour. I guess the reason why I don't get lots of aches and pains is because I work out at least four days a week, and my body is used to all the strain on my joints.

If you are on Facebook you can see the photo's of yesterdays run.

Thanks David, for someone who loathed any sort of exercise for the first 50 years of my life, it is odd how I have completely turned my life around. But I love keeping fit and healthy, especially when I can beat all the guys in my gym at The Plank, some of them young enough to be my great grandsons.
