Ava died five days after Barbara in January 1990, that was a bad year, we also lost Margaret Lockwood, Joel McCrea, Terry-Thomas, Eve Arden, Capucine, Jill Ireland, Rex Harrison, Paulette Goddard, Robert Cummings, Sammy Davis jr, Irene Dunne, Garbo, and Joan Bennett, Although this year has been pretty bad too for show biz deaths.

I have never liked Christmas, and luckily my friends feel the same, and it is one time of the year when I love to be on my own. I can think of nothing worse than family Christmases, I hate all the commercialism and phoniness, and the desperation to have a good time, and if that makes me a Grinch well, so be it.
I love to be able to sit in front of the TV eating what I like and watching what I like. Several people have said to me that they wish that they could do that, but they have commitments. There are some who can't bear to be on their own, but I need my space, especially at this time of the year.

Your photographic memory is impeccable. I think Eartha Kitt died on Christmas day too but I'm not sure if she branched out into films.
1990 was a pretty bad year. I seem to recall 1998 (Sinatra, Roddy McDowell) and 2003 (Gregory Peck and others whom my bucks Fizz filled memory is currently failing to remember) for Hollywood deaths too although 1990 sounds staggering.

Some people do tend to put unbearable expectations upon themselves to make an impossibly perfect day and it creates more misery than joy.

She made her film debut in Casbah (1948) as one of the Katherine Dunham dancers.
I saw her in New Faces in 1954, which was a musical version of the hit Broadway show.
In 1958 she appeared with Nat King Cole in St Louis Blues, and with Sammy Davis jr in Anna Lucasta.
She even starred opposite Frankie Howerd in Up the Chastity Belt in 1972..

Did you ever see the divine Anne Baxter in Batman? That wonderful lady who played the lead role in All About Eve camped it up outrageously, playing two different characters, Zelda the Great, and Queen Olga of the Cossacks, and was unforgettable in both roles.

There was nothing subtle about our Anne, but then her Nefertiti in The Ten Comandments was one of the few hilarious highlights in that de Mille dirge.
There are lots of clips of her chewing the scenery on YouTube, but when she got a plum role like Eve there was no one better. She comes a close third in my favourite actress list, after Barbara and Geraldine Page.

Geraldine Page was great in The Trip to Bountiful. I think she won an Oscar for that role.

That was just wonderful, there was no one who could heave their breasts as dramatically as Anne, not even Marilyn.
She came to the UK in 1958 to star with Richard Todd in a marvellous thriller, Chase a Crooked Shadow, and was at her bosom heaving best in that one. It is no longer on YouTube, but is available from Amazon for under £8.
One of the best ever Columbo episodes was Requiem for a Falling Star, in which Anne played, what else, but a great Movie star, and she played it to the hilt. She even got her good friend, Paramount's dress designer Edith Head, to play herself in a guest role.
Anne was one of the guest speakers at Barbara's Lincoln Centre Tribute, I was so busy taking photo's of Barbara that I only got one not very good shot of Anne, but at least I saw her in the flesh.
I loved Bacall on stage in Applause, but I wish that I had seen Anne, just image, watching Eve taking on the role of Margo Channing. The greatest compliment came from Bette Davis who was watching from the wings, and said to Anne, "You WERE Margo!"
