A nice camp Christmas picture of Anne Baxter which I'm sure Walter and some others will like!! 😁”

Well, I would if it was Anne, but it is the extremely Naff Mary Martin.

Hilda where are you getting your photo's from? you thought that Jean Simmons was Deborah Kerr, and now this!

Have you learned nothing from me over the past two years.

They often get it wrong, Google Mary Martin Christmas pose, and you will see that pic.

I will try another star who I'm more familiar with and so hopefully I won't make a mistake!

I've only seen Anne really in the divine All About Eve and in my mind's eye that picture seemed plausibly her!

So Walter what would you say was Hollywood's best ever Christmas movie?

Here's a nice Christmas picture of Doris Day in more recent years

I feel very sure I haven’t made a mistake on this one! 😁

You need to catch up on Anne's films, she was a very underrated actress. She won a Best Supporting Oscar for The Razors Edge. Other great performances are in One Desire with Rock Hudson and Natalie Wood, You're My Everything with Dan Dailey and Three Violent People with Charlton Heston

That's easy, Barbara's Christmas in Connecticut, followed by My Reputation, and Remember the Night.

The worst, in my opinion of course, is the ghastly It's a Wonderful Life, which I have never been able to endure all the way through.

That is a really love picture of Doris, it looks quite recent too.

My heart goes out to poor Debbie Reynolds -outliving your children is a cruel heartbreaking tragedy

RIP Carrie Fisher.

You know that you are old when the children of the stars who you loved when you were a teenager die. In fact Debbie was only a teenager when I saw her in The Daughter of Rosie O'Grady. I remember her marrying Eddie Fisher in 1955 around the time that I went in the army, and I can remember Carrie being born, which is why I find it hard to believe that she was 60.

I know everyone keeps saying it, but I cannot remember a worse year for celebrity deaths, and now today we hear of another, the wonderful Liz Smith, but at least she lived to a great age.

It truly has been an exceptionally sad year

Carrie Fisher sadly isn't the only adult child of a star to die this year. So did Frank Sinatras son Frank junior and also one of Dean Martins sons followed by their mother Dean's ex wife Jeanne Martin.
Now I'm probably making you feel really old Walter!

Anyway at least Franks first wife and mother of his children Nancy Sinatra senior is still with us and will hopefully reach her 100th birthday in September 2017.

I also agree with you about Doris Day's photo -if anyone else is lucky and vital enough to reach 100 years of age from Hollywood's golden era I'd say Doris Day has to be a strong contender for it.

Well Hilda, you have given me some information that I have been searching for ages, Nancy Sinatra's age.
I think that I mentioned to you that she was Barbara's best friend for 40 years. Their marriages broke up around the same time, and that was probably what drew them together.. I knew she must be nearly 100, as it was Frank's centenary last year. She has always been a very private person, and the last time that I saw a picture of her was when she accompanied Barbara to the Los Angeles Film Critics Award ceremony in 1981, when she was presented with their Life Achievement Award.

Yes her daughter Nancy Sinatra tweeted to a pal that her mum is 99 now and apparently her date of birth is September 11th 1917.

I saw a picture of her from around 2012 where she was at a movie premiere or film event with her daughter Nancy who was in the kind of "carer" role supporting her mother as she walked.

But yes she's definitely not one to court media attention or the spotlight.
I dare say there's much from Hollywood's golden era that she will loyally keep her counsel on.

Nancy and Kirk seem to be the "biggest" surviving links to Barbara Stanwyck left unless I've overlooked someone?

Any friendship or connection with Olivia De Havilland and Barbara?

The connection between Barbara and Olivia is that they were both Nominated for an Oscar in 1941 and 1948. Olivia's sister Joan beat them in 1941, and Jane Wyman in 1948. Olivia still managed to win twice though, in 1946 and 1949.

I have couple of pictures of Barbara and Olivia from 1956 at a film function, one on their own chatting animatedly, and another with Liz Taylor and Mike Todd.

I saw Olivia at the film premiere of The Proud Rebel at the Empire, Leicester Square in 1958. We were both caught up in the crush of excited fans, she looked behind her for her escort and I could have touched her, but I manage to contain myself.

There will be some co-stars from her TV shows of the 60's, 70's & 80's.

I note that IMDb lists Raquel Welch as an uncredited bit part player in Roustabout, the Elvis movie that Stanwyck did in 1964.

Raquel was cut from the final print of Roustabout.

Linda Evans and Lee Majors are still around, they played her daughter and son in hit TV series, The Big Valley. Linda always speaks very fondly of Barbara and says that she taught her everything she knows about acting and being professional.

I'd LOVE to see that picture of Olivia and Barbara chatting! 💜

Please Facebook it or post it on when they change the picture display function soon!

Arr yes of course I'd forgotten about Linda Evans but in terms of Hollywood royalty connections that mixed in with her in the golden era Kirk and Nancy Sinatra senior seem most prominent.

I think all of the film director's who have worked with Barbara are certainly gone sadly but inevitably.

We've talked about Hollywood's best Christmas films but what about New Years Eve "orientated" films?

Can you think of a good golden era New Years ears Eve film?

Yes, I can think of two, and both with Barbara.

In Remember the Night she plays a jewel thief out on bail over Christmas. Her prosecuting council Fred MacMurray feels sorry for her, and takes her home to meet his family in Indiana for Christmas. At a New Years Eve fancy dress party they realise that they are in love. Unfortunately, he still has to take her back to court after the holidays to face justice. It is a lovely film that should be as well known at the overrated It's a Wonderful Life.

She plays a young widow in My Reputation who meets Major George Brent and in one reckless scene runs of to Chicago with him for New Years Eve, leaving her two young sons at home, which results in serious repercussions. This was the film that I saw both Barbara and Scotty Beckett for the first time.

I will post some photo's of those two films on my Facebook page on New Years Eve.

If you were a fan of The Golden Girls, I have just added a lovely shot of Barbara greeting Bea Arthur at the Golden Globes Awards in 1986.

On the subject of photo's, did you know that you can post a profile picture In here? I only found out today, so have just posted one.

One of my favourite films is The Apartment, directed by Billy Wilder and starring Jack Lemmon, Shirley McLaine and Fred McMurray which closes at New Year

Just watched it! That was brilliant thanks. Nice to see a clip of Shirley Temple as a child star.

Did I spot a scene where Deborah Kerr was kissing either Cary Grant or Gregory Peck? It went past to quick for me to analysis but they where tall strong men from the back view.

Thanks I've never watched that film before but I really should -love Shirley Maclaine and I hadn't realised they where still doing black and white films in the 1960s!

They both sound like excellent films, Barbara Stanwyck certainly seems to have all bases covered!

Awe Walter I LOVE 💜The Golden Girls

Any pics of Barbara with the divine other golden girl Betty White who is still with us?

I take it that year Barbara was there for The Colby's?

I hadn't realised that profile picture feature had been added. I'm a bit shy so may put up a picture of one of my favourite golden era Hollywood hunks instead! 😁 😉

Any word on when the ability to like a post and post full display visual links will be starting?
