Probably because where I work, most people are fashion junkies, and generally, if you're a fashion junkie, you'll have an iPhone!

I thought chrome was the most popular by a good margin.

I don't believe that many are negative about Android as most of the new high spec handsets I see being bought are Android devices. Even die-hard Apple iPhone fans are switching to the SGS5, HTC One M8 and Sony Xperia Z2. Add to that the demand for larger phablets and the only show in town is Android really (well Windows mobile maybe if you count the single Nokia phablet).

Of course fashion has a lot to do with mobiles, like everything else. Branding is a powerful identifier and for many the brand is more important than performance. Android has come a long way and in Kit Kat form seems to be finding converts as it has become more intuitive.

Or you could just buy a Nexus device, then you don't have to worry about all that.

I used to be big into rooting and custom ROMs but after a while, I had a think about why I did this, and it would generally be because I couldn't stand the additions the manufacturers make.

Then when the likes of the Nexus 4 and 5 came along with their flagship rivalling specs at half the price, but no manufacturer overlays, I realised that in fact in many cases, I would be paying double the price for software that I didn't want, so why would I?

Stock Android is FAR better than any of the skinned versions, which almost always look crap and impact performance. It's surprising when you use a Nexus just how fluid it feels and how fast it is compared with almost any other flagship phone, even the latest stuff. In fact I'd even go so far as to say its even more fluid than the latest iPhones which is something you could never say about Android in years gone by. It really is a ferociously fast device and that is down to the lack of bloat.

Absolutely. Stock is the greatest experience . Manufacturers should do as Motorola do and just add useful features to stock rather than awful ugly interfaces like LG or loads of crap smart stay stuff like Samsung.

Stock Android is superb, when I previously owned a iPhone 3GS & 4, I jailbroke the both of them so that I could make the phone mine, with less restrictions, simple things like drag n drop were made available to me. With Android all phones would be better without the sh!t that networks & manufacturers put on. I can see myself remain an Android customer, but just wish that all handsets came with stock.

Ironically Android and Windows users are just as bad if not worse.

Claiming that Apple products are overpriced and the people that buy them are brainwashed in some way. Any criticism in blogs or YouTube of Android will see the comments section filled with angry Android users and videos down voted even though the argument may be a sound one. I don't see the same sort of backlash when Apple is criticised by these so-called Apple fanboys.

I don't care either way. Use what you are happy with and ignore the childish comments you will get from either side.

Personally I prefer Apple products, not because I am brain washed but because they work better for my needs.

What makes me laugh are people who believe that Apple is a luxury brand, luxury items, high end etc... ....I was working with a few people who held that belief and all they were talk about was apple this apple that high end....no its just mass produced stuff as common as a kettle..I pointed out people with money who have high end things get things made for them or get people to make the calls and look up things.

android in my opinion is ok, I use it the only reason i prefer android is that there are a choice of different manufacturers who make products and have different styles and designs of phones..Im not locked walled in and one design of phone.

plus I hate using touch screens

What in your view makes something a luxury brand?

I agree.

I have an iPhone because I want an iPhone. Not because I've been brainwashed into having one.

I often wonder why people seem to equate the spinning "beachball of death" with Windows BSOD.

The beachball is just a busy cursor, like the circle on windows, a kernel panic would be the mac version of a stop error.

But what made you want an iPhone specifically over any other device?

Well you wondered wrong because nowhere did I "equate it" to a BSOD.

The basketball of death is an entire beast of its own and I have encountered it many a time. It's also not the same as the Windows busy cursor. 9 times out of 10 I've had to completely restart the machine when the basketball of death appears. It's the more annoying equivalent of Windows' "not responding" in most cases.

If it came to push & shove id buy a android than a iphone because 1. they are cheaper and 2. Im not being ripped off unlike apple.

If they do the same thing not sure why it matters.

A Chicken and egg thing really.

As to fashion, it is always a bit of a laugh seeing well dressed dude let down by their old scratched to heck iPhone. Likely because of the stupidly massive outlay those, arguably at new, long in the tooth devices simply do not get updated.

If there is one thing Apple got VERY right it was to put the mobile networks in their place and say you do the network we will do the phone.

Orange were the worst for this, the early smart phones made by Nokia that ran Symbian were crippled after the network operators got their way. For some reason Nokia just let them do it! When you get an Apple iPhone you get an Apple iPhone not some dodgy version of EE iOS on it. Also you can be waiting for mobile networks to approve a firmware months after the manufacture has released it, thats if the network choose to even do that.

Samsung fill Android with crap/junk, its a very inconsistent experience from one manufacture to another. If i wanted an Android device i would make sure it was stock android.

The flip side of that is i know 3 people with an iPhone 4, all in immaculate condition and only now have they become obsolete (if we are using not getting updates as the line of obsolescence). There aren't any Android devices receive OS updates for nearly 4 years.

That said my brothers iPhone 5 looks like its been in a fight with Mike Tyson and lost badly.

I'm all Android but only because i fail to see what an iPhone does better for all that extra cash.

Are iPhones really that much more expensive than a top Android phone like an S5?

I disagree. People are very vocal in their support of Android on these pages.

Yes it is. There are iPhone fans and Galaxy fans, etc - you tend to like what you've bought and that will be down to branding - but not exclusively to one product over another.

Agreed. You pays your money and you makes your choice. Some people like tinkering, others don't.

Personally I can't think of any iPhone that is not 'long in the tooth'. And I bet IOS 8 will be even longer in the tooth.

It is impossible to compare, they are chalk and cheese.

The latest top end android phones are usually as expensive as an iPhone, well for the first week at least.

I went from an iPhone4 (Sept 2010) which is still immaculate to a Nexus 5 (Feb 2014) purely out of curiosity.

I was sort of convinced that I'd be buying another iPhone within a few months but wanted to have a play with a Nexus 5.

The Nexus 5 has blown me away, smooth, fluid and a generally great all round experience. Would I buy another? Most definitely yes!

Would I go back to iPhone? I'd certainly have a look, but what is attractive about android is the amazing value for money experience.

Value for money isn't that clear cut though. My iPhone 4 was updated throughout the whole four years that it was in daily use. If only android handsets were serviced with firmware updates by their manufacturer's for as long the argument would be clear cut. However with major android modules / apps now featuring in the play store some progress has been made here and its actually nice to have your camera updated ( for example) without having a while new firmware update.

It's always going to be each to their own, and you have to respect that.
