Price plummets from £37 a month to £29 a month, despite only going on sale in the UK on April 11

The monthly contract price for the Samsung Galaxy S5 has dropped by 22 per cent in the UK, despite only going on sale under two months ago.

This is according to new statistics from price comparison website uSwitch.com, which shows the contract price has dropped from £37 a month from when it went on sale on April 11 to £29 a month as of the end of May.

Prices will no doubt drop over time but like you say you will probably have to pay a lot up front. There are rumours that the S5 is not meeting Samsung's sales targets.

Sources say Samsung's UK sales team were expected to sell 100,000 Galaxy S5 smartphones a week but were achieving less than 60,000. This in turn resulted in an oversupply of Samsung stock, sources claim.

Looking on Omio, dial-a-phone (P4U subsidiary) have the S5 free at £29.99/month on EE.
That seems to be the only place doing it free for £30 or less.

For comparison's sake, the HTC M8 is free at £28 in CPW.

Isnt this the same with most phones, however popular... Even the Blackberrys (Z10, Q10 etc) were on high price plans initially... its to get more money from the people who like the latest tech and are 'early adopters'. Same with SIM free or PAYG, the price is set slightly higher in the first weeks.

Apple are probably the only phones whos prices dont drop that quickly... but it wouldnt surprise me if even the contract prices are influenced by Apple

Apparently the LG G3 is outselling the Galaxy S5 in Korea based on the launch period sales.

The GS5 was selling ~7,000 units per day whilst the LG G3 has been selling almost ~30,000 units per day.

I wonder if the LG G3 will be able to sell 1 million units in a shorter amount of time in Korea?

Looking on HotUKDeals there is one for the G3 ar £32.99 a month with no upfront cost. Not bad for a still to be released phone.

I can't imagine paying £37 a month for a S5. I would feel robbed each day.

They all do in the supply and demand open market.
And as likely as not you will now find the S4 for £20 a month.

These days, for some other non phone stuff, prices often go in reverse with the Amazons of this world heavily discounting only near product release date.

Just wondering how many calls, texts and how much data with those deals though?

There were a lot cheaper deals than when I got it when it was released than £37/month but they had hardly any data (think one was even 500meg per month!
