They are novelty songs that are rubbish and cost too much to make.

Agree. Those are the only 2 songs that have really stood the test of time. I mean WIM is 24 years old now and most people still love it when it comes on.

I'm a bit biased as I met my OH in a pub the night England played Cameroon in 1990 and I remember us walking back to the station after the game and just hearing that song being blasted out from every bar, pub and car radio

Same as 3 Lions. It really was like we had a new National Anthem for 6 weeks in 1996. I don't think you could go more than a couple of hours without hearing that being played somewhere and I can still picture it being played at Wembley with 80 odd thousand people singing along.

They're always so cliched, a sample of "they think it's all over" commentary and a football crowd style chorus sung really badly.

Pwei have one out this year - Funk FIFA. It's not great but it's ok. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3pMZZ_8nGLQ

I did like "Touched by the hand of cicciolina" from 1990 though http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LNWu7Ejm_TM

None of them are a patch on Shakira's Waka Waka.

Adelén's Olé and Shakira's La La La from this years World Cup album are as good as it gets this time.

New Order showed everyone how to produce a genuinely great song and not just a great football song. We kind of lost how to do that afterwards though you can argue the likes of Three Lions (and Vindaloo) are great football songs as well. Better off leaving it to the fans in the stands, they do a heck of a better job than the musicians who are paid by the FA.

Just heard on the radio that the Monty python team have recorded a new version of Always Look on The Bright Side OF Life for the world cup. The lyrics have been changed to a football theme apparently.

Thanks for the response to my earlier post Blondie X and I concur with your sentiments too about how we all had more spirit then.

Sums up the decline of English Football that we've gone from World in Motion to Monty Python seeing an opportunity to re-release Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life doesn't it?

Apparently Boxbottom Vs The Printworks, including some irritating Mancs such as Bez have recorded a reggie style song called Our Telly's Bigger than Your Telly.

There's a video on youtube, (I'd do a link but everytime I do, I get a video not available message ?)

Its as irritating as it sounds.
