Stuck up, or simply more intelligent (seemingly) than usual?

They even advertised the series as such. If they didn't try to stick to that, the forum would be full of people saying that the adverts lied to get viewers, etc.

I think it must be harder to find HMs these days - you either have to get somebody who is prepared to lose their job (and in current economic climes that's no easy task), somebody who has a job they can leave for over 10 weeks (how many can manage that these days), students who are free for most of the summer or people who are their own bosses, or unemployed people.

I think this year they were seeking a certain type of housemate, relatively successful people who work for themselves, or at least that's how most of them come over in their VT - which can never be trusted

This has made it interesting for me, not see airheads, who have teeth missing, and with names that are nick names.

They are all powerful.

Why are you using the expression 'stuck up' for this lot. They seem a nice, friendly bunch willing to do their best and get stuck in and do their best.

I think any numskulls would just be reduced to silent sulking as their stupidity would not be celebrated by this lot.

I think it because they are not the type of housemates, people are used to.

I agree but that doesn't mske them stuck up.
Refreshingly different would be a more appropriate phrase.

By stuck up do you mean relatively intelligent, generally able to string a sentence together, and not pretending to be as thick as a brick?

I find it quite refreshing.

Exactly. For some people speaking properly = stuck up. It makes a nice change to have some housemates with a modicum of intelligence instead of airheads

Aah but Jean, you're mistaking talking properly for intelligence

Hi there!!

They aren't stuck up, thus has made this year more interesting to me.

Fed up off housemates, who fail to string a sentance together, and are wannabes.

Can't see there being crazy antics this year, as housemates won't want to hurt their lifestyle.

I took it to mean they were well spoken as well as being intelligent, not mutually exclusive.

This is the kind of housemates I wanted to see. Doesn't mean I'm going to like all of them but I want people who have something to say. The airheads have been done to death. It's time for what I'd call more normal people.

It was certainly nice to not hear one 'innit' tagged onto the end of a sentence last night!

It is interesting that people who brag about their intelligence don't have the emotional intelligence or self-awareness not to come off as condescending and pompous. A few of them certainly fell into that trap. I guess it's comforting if they really are strong in one area then it doesn't mean they are strong in others, particularly charm. lol

Seemingly simple Winston has got it made with this line-up, but it is only the first day.

It was only the VTs that showed them in this light. So far they seem to be quite friendly, nice and dare I say charming. Nothing remotely offensive so far in the house.

They are stuck up if they sell themselves to us as somebody who looks down on another type of person in the belief that they are beneath them. Several of them did just that in their VTs.
