I thought it was just me that thought this. I cannot stand the way radio one are pushing Smith at us every two minutes at the moment too. Newman at the V festival last year was awful live.

My the music business is a fickle beast. "Virtually unheard of now".It's been what, 5 months since his last release?

That's how the industry work, singles followed by album, touring etc then they "disappear" to work on new material.

I quite like both of them actually.

Calvin Harris has confirmed that John Newman will feature on his next single, so that should bring John Newman back in the charts. Will be interesting if he'll have another solo hit though.

Oops. I'm kind of slow. Just found out he is Lily Allen's cousin.

A third-cousin apparently, which is a bit tenuous.

Not a fan of Sam Smith, I much prefer John Newton, although i will agree, the hype has died out pretty quickly for him, i just don't feel he had anything from his LP that could compete with Love Me Again, hence why every other track hes released has struggled. Love Me Again is definitely a tough hit to follow up. That song was brilliant. His album sales weren't as much as i expected neither, i assumed before this thread popped up he at least had a bit of longevity there on the album charts, but apparently not.

John Newton? Who's he? Is he another Northern Soul singer? (Please don't take offense, I don't mean anything nasty by that joke).

People are being very harsh on John Newman on here now, even though as per what I said before I would agree he dropped off the pace after Love Me Again. Surprised this threads still running, seems everyone in the Universe really hated him. He played a role in writing the 2 hit tracks he did with Rudimental, so he's sort of a 3 hit wonder rather than a 1 hit wonder so far.
