Why do people still want to be on Big Brother?

I'll start with Live Feed, this is the most important and essential part of the show. Surely people who audition for this show should know that they will be edited to look horrible even when they're not. The viewers need live feed to actually get to know the housemates as 45 minutes a day + shit on the side (which just a place for Rylan to get attention) just is enough. Channel 5 doesn't bother with spin off shows but on Channel 4 we had BBLB. BBBM. Diary Room Uncut, Nominations Uncut and live feed on E4.

5* is completely useless and shows nothing other than Neighbours and Home & Away. Surely they could fit Live Feed on that? or even 5+24 during the day.

Big Brother housemates just don't become famous anymore. You still see the likes of Brian Belo, Josie Gibson, Alison Hammond, Aisleyne plus others making appearances in the media whereas the people from the channel 5 series just disappear into obscurity. If you asked me to identify any hm from C5's TOWIE copy I wouldn't be able to give an answer but I can remember nearly every C4 Housemate.

There's no media buzz surrounding the show anymore. Apart from a few hours/1 day after launch where there's a few news stories around about new housemates or twists there's just nothing in the newspapers and even DS doesn't have much Big Brother news anymore.

Some of them must know that they have no chance of winning and they won't get any money from Public Appearances either as nobody wants to see them.

True. Sadly the media saturation we have has an enduring appeal to the egos of the young, shallow and impressionable, and no matter how often they're reminded that it's not a great passport to lasting success any more, they don't want to hear that. Producers will always find people desperate enough to carry on believing that they'll be the exception and make it big.

Many have a pathological need to.

Don't discount the appeal of a long-running DS appreciation thread.
Your devoted fans will buy anything you put out, it's fantastic.

Refer back to this post when Matthew releases his second fitness DVD.

they are deluded little shits, they all think that the public will instantly fall in love with them because they are so fantastic and the nation will deliver a petition to Broadcasting house demanding they get their own primetime chatshow

why do people want to be on it?

well, the "reality" show has taken off... there are lots of lowend acting jobs around in the towie type show... and so those buzzing around those shows have a chance of some exposure that they didnt get in the auditions for the other shows...

remember how many things "Gina" was seen in the background of... that's the place for background actors to be these days

They desire attention on a grand scale and to be validated by others. Even a small quantity of exposure is adequate enough to draw them in. I wish the show went back to its social experiment roots.

I'd love to go on but only if it moved back to the BB5, 6 & 7 days. Also, I'd hate to be on tv, but then nobody watches big brother anyway so!

It's got to be better than being an unemployed Shelving Consultant Manager.

I would love the BB experience. I think going in now, there would be much less pressure. Far less viewers, less TV exposure and a better chance of returning to normal life after the show.

In the early years, life changed the instant you left the BB house, but I think nowadays it is a lot easier to slip back into the old routine.

£100,000 for starters.

Then they are all mostly so self obsessed they all believe they'll be the one that makes it big

Some of them are very smart. Even these days, if you go on Big Brother you can make a a lot of money afterwards. Not as much as years ago obviously, but you could make a good few £1000 from intervews etc during the first month or so after you come out. You might be disliked, but 6 years later nbody is even goign to remember you apaprt from a few die hard DS BB fans, yet you will have come away with a good few £1,000. Another example is the TOWIE lot...they have all made an absolute fortune...many own their own houses and own businesses now...they're rolling in it. People take the p**** out of them, but they're just playing up to their characters on the show and they're making a mint from it. In ten years time, nobody will even rememebr who they are yet they will have raked in a shed load of money and have made a great life fore themselves. If ITV kncoked on my door and offered me a part in TOWIE I would jump at the chance...you could make a fortune. ITV don't even pay them that much, but they all rake it in from other things outside of the show.

If your dream is to become famous then you'll do whatever it takes to get you there. You will believe you are the one in a million who will gain fame and fortune from the show even though this is highly unlikely. Look at how many HMs, both zeleb and non-zeleb, have applied or been on other reality shows?
There are those who want to do BB for the experience and there are also those who may feel they can publicize their businesses. Before last year, who had heard of Dexter and knew who had his own company? He would have known the media would do their research and in turn drive up interest in his company.

To be famous and have a better life after BB but that doesn't happen your edited to look shit and then your life isn't the same after the show. Some past housemates have suffered badly after the show is over Aaron said the after care is poor. And there's no way you get rich after BB

Good answer. Totally agree.

There's a tiny little part of me that would love to do it - just to do it. I'm too long in the tooth now, probably; but I've been such a fan from the very beginning that I can imagine myself doing it.

The much greater part of me, however, knows there's no chance. Wouldn't leave my kids and OH for that long; my parents would literally expire of mortification; my siblings would be applying to have me orphaned out; I know how manipulative it is and that I can't shut up so I'd inevitably get myself into trouble; I can't handle my drink and if it's on offer - I'd take it. Most of all, I think, going anything up to 12 weeks with nothing to read would drive me completely insane.

Big brother is a TV show, with or without getting money it is getting media exposure. If anything it is this type of house that will benefit from it.They are not nobodies and are not trying to start lives just to get media exposure to improve whatever they were doing.

Some are simply needy of attention, but most just have egos of varying sizes that need to be stroked, and being on the show is the bait, the £100,000 is nice to aim for but essentially it is a need for unimportant people some with low self esteem to feel important and pretentious for a few weeks.

Would I go on it? No...sodding...way.

Because after 14 years of Big Brother they've learned how the show can bring fame and fortune, and set you up for a successful career in the media for life if you can get on it.

When I was younger I wanted to be a housemate, not for fame but for the experience. It looked like a load of fun but nowadays I wouldn't dare go on that show. It would be too dangerous and what's the point when people aren't going to see you at all.
