That the public would rather the down to earth and different types rather than the same housemate put in 9 times. I hope that the 6 going in tonight bring some diversity to the show, otherwise I won't be very happy!

I agree.

She's like a breath of fresh air in there amongst that bunch who look like they were assembled by BB Central Casting

There's no hope unless they're chucking some normal folk in there tonight.

What do you mean by normal? Give me an example of a previous housemate you consider normal.

Nah, she's a sassy black woman which is like catnip for internet fans. You only have to see the extraordinary amount of "weave snatching" gifs there are, coupled with the odd tendency to proclaim anyone like this "queen". She's a forumites wet-dream.

I agree with you.
But I think the point is that she stands out against all the others who seem to be so samey.

The conspiracy theorist part of me wonders if this was a deliberate casting decision to make one housemate stand out over the rest.

Just about all the others were boasting about very material things such as how much money they earn, how driven they are to do anything to win, how financial success is everything to them, and how they are above other certain types of people.
In that respect they felt like the same housemate multiplied by 9.

This & the voting public fell for it hook, line and sinker last night

I like Pauline, so far.
However, I am wary.
I liked STFU on first impressions, as well as Laura from the same year. Also, thought Wolfy was quite a laugh on launch night.
Basically, my first impressions aren't up to scratch.

If Pauline stays how she is she will make it to the final she's already got the public on her side that's a good start on the first night

I'd forgotten about STFU. I used to have to mute TV when she appeared.

She had the same reaction Carole, Kathreya, Wolfy-like reaction. Someone that stands out and people get behind for being quirky and slightly different to everyone else.

As we've seen with all of the above this can wear thin after a couple of weeks. It'll be interesting to see if she can maintain this happy-go-lucky persona.

Yes, I like Pauline, but I do get the sense that there there is a bit of "And here is your people's champion ladies and gentleman" about it.

Right down to Emma feigning surprise that she's gone down so well with the crowd.
Given how the housemates which preceded her presented themselves in their VTs, I don't see why there should be any surprise.

So the most popular housemate after only 1 day, favorite with the bookies, favorite with app voters... is the polar opposite of BB's theme. Begs a question does that...

Perhaps. But I didn't warm to any of the housemates you've listed on their launch nights anyway. I saw right through that Kathreya cookie bullshit right from the start. However even if it's all contrived bullshit this time as well, I think Pauline actually could be a housemate I might genuinely like.
I could be wrong though.

It also helps to be not very good looking or thin, and we can add at least bb8's Laura to the list and perhaps Becky from bb13 (and others I don't remember right now).

The wild enthusiasm for Shievonne in bb13 should also be mentioned, even though it wasn't a launch night phenomenon but was instead based largely on one "entertaining" performance in the DR.

But although it can help to lack looks at the start, I don't think there's ever been a forum favourite female with lasting popularity who wasn't good looking, except perhaps for Nadia back in the bb5 days.

Yes, some people always thought Kat was contrived. But BB8 started on 30 May and it wasn't until the 28th of July that the "implied probability" version of the betting odds started showing a generally steady fall in Kat's chances of winning. The highest peak in her implied probability was near the end of June. So her popularity lasted pretty well for two months.

And how embarrassing for Channel 5 if she wins.

They have done everything in their power to get rid of older viewers and attract the kiddies with their Iphones - Then a 49 year old wins it!

agree - she'll be a screaming banshee in a couple of weeks and they'll all have turned against her, not to mention how many times we'll all have heard the "do you know I once sang with KYLIEEEEEEE" story.

She'll be trouble with a capital T that one... going to make Carole <shudder> look like a teddy bear. God help any chickens in the house.
