In the last few episodes, I have really felt the absence of Ken is hampering the show to an extent. It's not only an issue of believability - why the HELL is Deirdre not phoning Ken 10 times a day begging him to come home, and why isn't Ken doing so - but also an issue of pulling the wool over the audience's eyes. Ken is being treated as an elephant in the room, he absolutely should be there as Peter's life is in the worst state it has ever been and he is in line for a murder charge, but has not even been mentioned this week. Deirdre is taking part in scenes having conversations that Ken should be having. I know there's nothing anyone can do but I just feel it's being handled really badly at this point.

He is missed but am enjoying watching Deirdre and Peters scenes together too. I think Corrie are handling the Ken thing as best as they can under the circumstances. They already had the scripts planned when Bill was cleared and they wanted to give him time to recover. With everything that's happened, I think it's handled well.

Nothing to do with Corrie or Bill Roache. The only ones to blame are those who accused him and ruined his life for 18 months or more.

To be fair, I did forget to say that Peter and Deirdre's scenes were excellent and some of Anne Kirkbride's best for a while - especially when she laid into him. But still, would it have really hurt for her to have mentioned what Ken thinks or shown her on the phone to him?

I am looking forward to Ken's return in August. The show is good at present, but it would be even better with Ken's input.

Agreed.

While the police actually ADVERTISE for accusers to come forward it is bound to attract some people who make claims either because they are ill, mistaken, confused or looking for easy money, and every false claim means a genuine claim is less likely to be believed.

Can't say I've missed Ken one single bit, the boring old coot.
If it wasn't for this forum, I wouldn't even remember he was still in it.

He's spent the last twenty years as wallpaper, stealing a living by doing bugger all like that Emily Bishop who thinks she's clever calling him Kenneth.
Salary thieves the pair of them.

Last time Ken had anything resembling a story was when he was on that barge that time, eating lovely soup cooked by that cheap floozy.

Deirdre isn't lessened by his absence either, she's absolutely terrific on her own.

What's Ken gonna do that's so hugely anticipated when he comes back?
Sit in the front room and occasionally raise his eyebrows above his Weatherfield Recorder in sheer, snobby contempt at Deirdre.
Nab Peter to one side in the street and tell him to pull himself together, before Peter reminds him he was a crap Dad himself.

Then he'll be back to being wallpaper again for the next ten years.
Frickin' salary thief.

Yes, I think so too. It is too far fetched to think that Ken wouldn't come back to support Peter.

To be fair, UQ, Ken does more than that. At least once a week he walks Eccles down by the canal, looking for intellectual company. And he is a school governor, alongside Wendy Crozier, nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

Always in agreement, as usual.

Quite right. Hard to recover from at his age I should think.

He's as tight as a duck's backside too Janet.
Standing there in the Rovers, nursing one half of mild for two hours, boring the nuts off anyone unlucky enough to be stood near him about how people don't pull their weight these days.

I've never seen him put a penny in that jukebox either.
He's quite happy to stand there looking smug though, enjoying the music others cough up for.
He's had the same hairstyle for fifty years as well, that's how mean he is.
He didn't even buy his house, he stole it off his miserable Uncle Albert, and even kept all of Tatlock's old fashioned furniture rather than fork out for anything decent.

Until recently, Deirdre's telly still had a wind-up handle on the side.
How he ever pulled a piece of skirt as lovely and as exciting as her, goodness only knows.

He's so mean he created the Grand Canyon after dropping tuppence in a ditch.
