I want to lend a friend my HTC One for a particular event where he needs some tethered data. Can anyone suggest an easy way of disabling/hiding email as this is the only sensitive thing on the phone. I could delete it all and then re download it, but it would be nice if there were just a simple toggle somewhere in settings. Bear in mind I am not looking for something super secure that's hacker proof, he's not going to go delving around in settings.

You could remove your account from the phone.

That's what I meant above by deleting and redownloading.

That looks like my best bet I guess, thanks. A similar facility is built in to my iPhone so I was considering looking for an android equivalent.

Why not simply download any emails to your laptop or where ever you DL them to and then simply put in an incorrect password, then if it tries to read Emails it will fail ?

If you can trust this person with your phone, why can't you trust them NOT to interrogate your Emails ?

Because it's the difference between leaving a sensitive document out on your desk for all to see, and putting it into a drawer in the desk. To start delving into access settings on the phone to reenable email is akin to opening the desk drawer to pry.

Only just got around to trying Applock but I must be doing something dumb. I have installed it and run the option to lock Gmail. Have restarted Gmail and Applock, have even rebooted the phone, but I still have access to Gmail.

Oops sorry, my bad. I was mixing up the in built mail with Gmail. Fine now.
