Thinking of getting this for the bedroom - seems good value, what do you think?

Looks a good buy - I wouldn't hang about too long because when they put good offers like that on the net they tend to go quickly. Sainsbury's had some really good offers on tablets three months ago, and they went in no time.

Must be trying to get rid of those models...pretty sure ASDA, Currys & Argos have had those particular sets at the same sort of price over the last couple of months. Was tempted myself, but it wasn't 1080P and it was a Plasma...but still a good price.

42 for that price is amazing. Go for it. Let us know how good it is as even for £40 or so more, it would be great value.

How far will it be from your eyes in the bedroom?

How far is the living room TV from your eyes and what is the resolution and size?

i.e. will you be disappointed with the quality?

Must be a very big bedroom.

Apparently if you are watching from more than 6' from the screen your eyes can't tell the difference between 780p and 1080p.

Presumably you mean either 720P, or 768

However, to tell the different between 1080 and 768 you would need to be closer than 6 feet for a 42 inch set.

However, HD Ready plasma's (like this one) are really pretty useless for HD, and an HD Ready LCD will absolutely wipe the floor with it - but for SD it's likely to be great.

If you want to be more exact yes it is a bit less, about 5' 9". For UHD it is under 2' 6".

I would say considerably closer than that

Well if 3" is considerably closer you'd be right. Basically if you are sitting under 6' away from a 42" HD TV you will notice the difference in a 1080 screen, if you are further away you may as well save yourself some money and buy a 720. In short TV manufacturers are making loads more money selling people expensive TVs they won't notice the difference in.

I would say you probably need to be only a single screen size away to see any benefit from a 1080 set, and even then it needs to be as good a quality set as the HD Ready one, or the HD Ready one will still look better.

Rubbish Sky HD and Blue-rays look great on my Panny

I've not seen any HD Ready Plasma that looks any good on HD, including my own Hitachi one, and recent(ish) Panasonic ones - which we had in the shop - even the crappy LCD makes absolutely wipe the floor with them on HD.

If you're happy with it, then fair enough - but what size screen is it anyway, and how far away do you view? - usually in these types of claims it's been viewed from too far away to be able to see HD detail.
