![]() If you can't listen live it's always archived so you can hear it any time. Good old Dr Detroit is also going to upload BBAus. I've heard very good things about it, like it's old-skool BBUK. Ironic because it got took off air for a couple of years after a very nasty sexual assault in the house but now it's back apparently much better than it ever was. Anyway, mind if I vent a little in here? Now that the show's over we're heading into the phase that makes me uncomfortable and I actually got quite upset over it yesterday when I cottoned on to what some people are doing. I've mentioned in here before that I've had bad experiences in a HM's Facebook group and I'm not going to name names or go into gory details but sadly bad memories are now being dredged up for me. ![]() Basically this is NOT a complaint about the existing members of the group or Chris himself but, for everyone's sake not least his own, I hope he doesn't become a regular member of the group. It was lovely when he popped in on Sunday to say thanks and the occasional guest appearance would always be a special treat. But nowadays thanks to FB and Twitter, HMs become a bit too easily accessible and from my own bitter experience I find a policy of keeping a respectful distance is the best way to stop any nastiness from happening. I know Chris Tweeted the link as a thank you but I got a bit irritated by all these new people showing up saying "Oh I wish I'd known about this group weeks ago." Rubbish! If they were THAT bothered during the series they would have come and searched for it. Maybe some are genuine but no, from what I've been through, there's only one reason why you would want to join such a group after the event and that's because they've got wind of a chance to talk to Chris. And by "talk to" I mean act like they're his new best friend. Trust me, that's where no end of problems start! ![]() OK I'm probably coming across as a bitter old cow who doesn't want to share. I guess I'm feeling conflicted because it'd be lovely if that group kept going to support Chris through his career (of which hopefully BB will just be a tiny footnote). He deserves everyone to be in there for the right reasons and at this stage after the game I can tell you not everyone will be. I believe if he stays a little bit inaccessible then those people who are there just so he'll notice them will get bored and go away. Just beware the pushy ones, I guess. ![]() ![]() ![]() But in seriousness many probably wouldn't have thought to find the group on fb anyway. It was lucky i found it myself. Most will pop in once or twice perhaps & just forget about the group im sure. Also the housemates knew what to expect on social media afterwards. Most messages are positive & i think many people been made happy by replies & retweets from chris is brilliant. Yes you get the odd nasty message but that's how it goes. I would like him to follow me on twitter - yeah chris where is my follow? but tbh i cant see many people being sad enough to stalk to the group expecting a chat with him or anything like that. Doubt there is anything to worry about. |

Gee I type all that and now I see this.
Sorry, I know you meant well but DS is the LAST place any former HMs should visit. They all get ripped to shreds!I personally like to keep a respectful distance from anyone or anything that I take an interest in or am a fan of. That doesn't mean you can't tweet etc them to tell them why you like them, or respond to things they say, or have a chat with them if you meet them in real life. I just think there is sometimes an overfamiliarity from a select few that demand and require time and information from someone they really don't know. I would actively discourage people to stay away from DS forums. Although I think muggins meant well, as this thread is obviously complimentary and respectful. So he'd be fine looking here! The rest of the DS forums, no way! I do feel like an older sister telling her siblings not to smoke as she puffs away on a packet of 20, but I'm already at this forum. There's no backing out now! Everyone else should save themselves while they can! ![]() Quote:
Good news about Couch Potatoes, hopefully Dr D will give a far better interview than BB/BBBOTS did.
BBAUS is very good IMO, well the last two years have been. Of course each series is dependant on the housemates involved but there is generally a good mix. I would say older housemates are non-existent usually no older than mid to late thirties. There's usually a good variety of personalities so you don't really notice the age thing. Last year they had a dog called George Clooney who was from a shelter, he was rehomed after the series. I think the general differences between BBAUS and BBUK are that theirs is fun yet competitive, nominations are point based and are taken seriously by BB, the housemates know BB is in charge and the housemates are given the tools to entertain themselves and therefore us. Couch Potatoes has info on the new series http://bbaustralia2014.blogspot.co.uk/ They had a dog?! I'd love that if I was a housemate! I'd probably just befriend the dog and leave the rest of the housemates to it! I think it probably wouldn't have been a good idea for this years UK house though. The poor think would have come out more scared than it went in.

I've never seen BBAUS. Does it differ to the UK one much?
A lot of the tasks are total rips from BBUK. Some people get upset about that but I'd rather watch the same task with a different cast than watch some of the tasks we've had over the years. When they nominate they assign points, three people are up for eviction minimum. Last year I think they were given 5 points to spread over 2 people, previous season's they'll say "two points for X" and "two points for y" and BB tries to get them to be honest and doesn't stand for "haven't made a connection with them" and "doesn't do housework". They had some good little mini tasks last season which is a good idea imported from BBUK. Oh and our housemates are a bit more closely psych evaluated I think. |

Yes no yes no yes no. Sorta. Sometimes. You won't see smoking. It airs in Australia at 7pm so it's quite sanitised for family viewing. Crowds don't boo. They nominate the day after an eviction in a live show and open phone lines immediately, you won't ever see them not opening phone lines straight away unlike this past season, they want max days for phone votes.

Sorry maths isn't my strong point.
They used to say two points for X and one point for Y Last year they'd say three points and two points or four points and one point. They did some stupid power thing where a housemate could watch the tally board in the diary room and stuff like that. They got that info prior to them voting but the info wasn't enough to change the outcome of their vote most of the time. It wasn't the bombshell it was supposed to be. |
