I ordered my free Giffgaff SIM after reading it on here, and wanting to know a couple of questions before activating it-
1) What exactly is a goodybag? Is it just like a prepaid, where you top-up set amount and it just deducts from that?

2) If the answer to question 1 is yes, if I want to use it in Europe, it says that data is 45p/mb. Would I get charged extra for using it abroad, or will the money be deducted which I have topped-up?

Btw, I am hoping to go for the £20 unlimited text/data if my questions are answered..

Giffgaff is PAYG, you either buy credit and use it to pay for calls/texts/data or you buy their "goodybag" which is just a 30 day bundle. The goodybag can be bought as a card transaction or from credit you've already bought.

You can recur the goodybag it you want and it will then debit your card or deduct your balance each month.

You would need to have credit for use abroad.

All goodybags work the same way, a bundle of calls/texts/data for UK use.

It's worth checking that giffgaff meets your data needs in terms of performance especially during peak day. It appears to have issues with capacity that often makes data unusable.

It's also worth understanding the limitations giffgaff places on it's "unlimited" data should you actually be able to use it.

So to expand on that, perhaps begin with the cheapest unlimited data deal and see how you get on?

Up until a few months ago I was a regular user of GG

Please be aware that the data speeds are terrible and also loads of probs with goody bags not working and trouble getting credit back.

I'd use them as a backup at worst and not as a main number

Worth checking if they actually have 3G coverage where you plan to use it, since O2's network is so woeful.

Plus be aware that GG and O2 are notorious for having network outages which might take your service out for hours at a time.

I've been with giffgaff for a few years now and have never had any problems with goody bags and I get H+ mostly where I live.

I wouldn't go for giffgaff at all, their performance for data usage is possibly the worst of all networks. Using my second phone on giffgaff was horrible to use, which I later switched it to lyca.

If you were needing a network which runs on O2, I would go for lyca, which includes 4G data for no extra cost if you live in a 4G area, or even Three which is also so much better.
