I keep forgetting about van Ginkel. Wonder if he'll stay with us this season or be punted out on loan? Guess it depends on whether we bring another CM in.
It's just Wallace and Traore (Vitesse) and Thorgan Hazard (Monchengladbach) that have been loaned out so far, isn't it? |

van Ginkel will almost definitely go out on loan after missing an entire season.
We're not exactly packed in CM. We have Matic and Fabregas that I'm happy with, Ramires I'd be happy to upgrade, and Mikel I'd be happy to never see in a Chelsea shirt again. On the off-chance we get Pogba it would likely involve Ramires going the other way, so I'm not sure we could really do without having van Ginkel in the squad. |

He would have been a great signing, but £60/65m was just too much of a gamble in my opinion. Still no confirmation of the Filipe Luis deal ? The Metro and Evening Standard were reporting it as done and dusted, they are usually fairly reliable. |

Did more than Oscar, Willian and Hazard put together, despite being limited to appearances off the bench.
Looks like we're trying to get Drogba back as a player/coach. Happy with the coach bit, but as a player....? We should be moving forward. |

looks like arsenal will get to sami before us.
Thats a shame, as him and matic would be great together. Schurrle has just doubled his value. Amazing player and still so young. Lets hope he is a starter in the first team (after a break) |

It should really have been sorted by now, But with the clowns we have running the club its not a surprise nothing has been done. Our treatment of former greats has never been that great so I dont know why its not a surprise |

Yeah it's poor form as you say. When I first saw that we were playing Sociedad at the Bridge I did wonder if it was a testimonial seeing as we haven't had a home friendly in ages, alas not.

Agreed, it'd be a real backwards step if he joins as a player again. Seeing as he's been linked with a return to us ever since quitting that Chinese club, hopefully this'll prove to be nothing more than a re-hash of tired old rumours.

Calm down. He had an average season and a good world cup - still some way to go before he resembles anything close to 'amazing'.

Schurrle has done very well for himself out of the world cup. 3 goals and two assists mostly as a sub will do his confidence no harm. I thought Hazard and Oscar were saving themselves for the world cup towards the end of last season, but from their performances it could have been genuine burn out. Will be interesting to see how we line up against Burnley but you'd hope we'd give Schurrle a good run if his form continues.

I agree that Oscar and Hazard were both disappointing, defenitely looked tired - they need a rest. Pretty sure Oscar has had almost 2 years uninterrupted playing, since he has joined us. He had the Olympics in 2012 then a full season in our first team, followed by the confederations cup and another full season, then the world cup. Defenitely needs a few weeks off!

Its been a good summer transfer window for us so far, how about our rivals? Arsenal seem to be strengthening well this year Liverpool taking a step back by selling their best player and will have a difficult 2nd season United not buying well yet, but just seem to need sooooo many players across the park. City will keep the same team |

Welcome!
Its been a good summer transfer window for us so far, how about our rivals? Arsenal seem to be strengthening well this year Liverpool taking a step back by selling their best player and will have a difficult 2nd season United not buying well yet, but just seem to need sooooo many players across the park. City will keep the same team Liverpool's first XI looks weaker for not having Suarez in it, but they've certainly improved their overall squad depth. I don't think they'll sustain a title challenge this year though, now as they've got European commitments. It'll be more about trying to consolidate their top 4 place that they've only just got back. I expect United to be a lot stronger this season with van Gaal at the helm. Can't say I've really seen much of Herrera, so it's hard to judge if he's what they've been crying out for in midfield. Seems expensive for a player that hasn't had a full international cap? Luke Shaw is a decent addition, if overpriced. I see they're being heavily linked with Vidal and that would really be an excellent signing for them if it happens. I'm still not overly convinced by Pellegrini, despite City's title win last season, however I fully expect them to be in the title mix again. Sounds like their main transfer target for the summer is a centre-back to partner Kompany and that's what they're in need of most. I see that alongside Sagna and Fernando they've splashed out £6m on a goalkeeper too to presumably provide Hart with more competition, again a position they could improve in. |

Schurrle has just doubled his value. ) But if that's the case then Oscar's value will have plummeted and Hazard showed that he still has a long way to go before he can be called 'world class' nevermind a potential top 3 player. I have a nagging feeling we've already seen the best of Oscar, and that he's one of those players who shone brightly for a while when they were young but then fade away into mediocrity. Schurrle's an interesting player! At times he looks a bit awkward and clumsy and far from top class. However, what's really good about him is that he's confident and has a great temperament!. He's a dangerous, very direct player who gets into good positions and thinks 'goal' or trying to create one as soon as he picks the ball up. |
