I think you could make an exception for someone who would be a great motivator and ambassador for the club. I'm not generally one to support "jobs for the boys" either, but in Drog's case just his presence might be lift for players and supporters alike.
I guess the argument against that is how many more ex-greats would we want to employ..so perhaps you're right.
We have the best guy around to motivate Chelsea fans and players doing the top job already. Nobody is better as a motivater then Jose.

Yep he would make for a great ambassador but he can do that job while working with the young kids and getting his badges at the same time.

Then we look at his work and how well he has or has not done with his exams and then see if he fits in with the current mangement. Thats how we would do it with normally.

perhaps its time for JT to start his coaching badges right now?
Personally I would make it a conditon of any player still playing when they get to JT's age that they start to sit their coaching badges. Even if they have no intenstion of going into coaching. Education is the key and as a player gets older I think they would benefit from seeing the game in a different way. You hear players come in and say managers like Wenger,SAF and Jose etc extended their careers and saw stuff they did not see about their game well maybe doing their badges will do that also?

Torres now wanted by cash-rich monaco

Could we see a bidding war?

£20m please.

Its also good to see our rivals struggling in the transfer market, united officials talking about "unlimited budgets" has just put a good few million on the price of every player they try and sign.

They also still believe that all the top players will want to go to old trafford. Really? No CL football, based in the north, and to play with greats like err Fellaini, wellbeck and Evans.

Seriously if you think top class players will not want to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world and one of the best managers then you need to sit back and do some thinking.

Everyone knew Utd was going to spend big this season and all they have done is confirm it. Plus when clubs go agaisnt Utd for players it will put them on the back foot slightly

Clubs always add on a few million when clubs like Utd come along. Anyone just looking at the income that Utd generate know they money to spend.

No Champions League football this season but thats a short term view, They are more then capable of winning the title next season. As Liverpool showed last season how far you can go with a average team in the league with no Champions League and Utd have a very good manager who would not make the mistakes Rogers did.

I just dont see that at the moment.

So far, united have signed no one, or rather no one ive heard of outside the "potential" of Luke Shaw.

They need to replace their back 4 and buy a midfield. I have not seen any sign of that.

I honestly cannot see united getting top 4 unless the bizarre experiment Rodgers is doing with LFC at the moment backfires spectacularly.

Certainly City, Chelsea and Arsenal have done good business so far and need not be worried about dropping top 4.

So they have talked about the "unlimited budget" but you have not seen any attempt of buying players? Whats the unlimited budget for?

Of course Arsenal and City and ourselfs have invested wisely so far, We have had targets in mind since halfway last season. Utd would not have done so, The manager has only had a week or so to look at who he has got and what he needs. Utd will have a idea of who they want and where but until the manager signed off nothing could be done (plus the World Cup would have delayed some work)

Utd wont need to enter long talks about players, They will go in slap a shed load of money on the table and then move on to the next target, I think you will see the sort of thing you saw with us in the first few months of Roman's time i.e players being signed in a short amount of time.

But that got us nowhere fast.

United need at least three defenders - and will have to get them from outside of the prem, that surely cannot be a good thing.

It is going to be an interesting league.

Everyone seems happy with their manager at the moment, but everyone forgets just how spikey he can be. And the UK media are always ready to pounce and stir the pot.

But we was not Man Utd, We was rebuilding from the bottom up. We had been a yo-yo club, scrapped Champions League football on the last day of the season and thanks to a player who when had a shot most of us watched Chelsea would look away. You say it got us nowhere but it did take a team who had not had a title run since Adam was a kid to second place to a team that went unbeaten all season and the semi final of the Champions League (where the manager went insane). We did not have a great manager in place.

This is Man Utd one of (if not the) biggest clubs in football. I think your too wrapped up in enjoying last season when it comes to Utd. That was a one off

You call him spikey er Jose can be as well so could SAF.

I can't get a stream, but we are a goal down.
Oh it worked ok for me. 1-1 in the end, a nicely taken goal from Jeremie Boga for us.

While there are more A Licence and Pro Licence holders in Spain I think the German league will be better for them in getting them ready for football here.

Yes, he had a great start last season with Vitesse, then the whole team appeared to go downhill. I don't think he's far short, even a couple of years ago he didn't look out of place with the first team. A better bet than Marin and Moses, what's happening to them ?

I still think we're two players short!
I'd like another attacking, creative midfielder plus another quality striker. Too much is resting on the unproven Costa and Fabregas to get us a lot more goals. If Costa doesn't click or Hazard gets an injury that keeps him out for a few months, then we could struggle.

He did a decent job at West Brom and Everton but he's completely unproven at Chelsea's level.

D. Drogba "it was an easy decision"

Signed a 1 year deal.

I guess we could argue about it being a good idea or not, or damaging his legacy.

But its done now, lets hope it works out.

Our strikers are now Costa, Lukkaku, Drogba and Torres.

I wouldnt like to be a defender who plays against lukkaku and costa for 60 minutes, and then drogba comes on as sub.

Very true and now we have got Drogba there is no chance he will stay at Chelsea now. If thats a loan or sold we will have to wait and see

Fill in lamps gap. One year. Does that mean play every match if fit?
